Larry Seabrook, Bronx City Councilman, Arrested on Fraud & Extortion Charges

Larry Seabrook, Bronx City Councilman arrested on fraud and extortion charges stemming from slush fund scandal. To be arraigned later Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.

To echo the words of rock group Queen, "another one bites the dust...." Bronx City Councilman Larry Seabrook surrendered this morning to federal authorities in Manhattan to face a 13-count indictment, which has accused him of money laundering and fraud. The indictment comes as part of an ongoing probe that resulted from a slush fund scandal, according to the NY Post. I remember Larry Seabrook from back in the day when I lived in the Bronx.

Seabrook, who is a Democrat, has been a member of the City Council since 2001. Authorities said he has been under investigation by the US Attorney's office in Manhattan and the city Department of Investigation in connection to city contracts he helped secure for various Bronx community organizations. He is expected to be arraigned later Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.

It is a shame that another political career that had so much promise has come to an end due to avarice and poor judgment.
