David Sills, 13, Gives Verbal Commitment to USC to be Quarterback of Football Team in 2015

Isn't 13 a little too young for a college sports team to recruit a prospective player? Well, David Sills, a seventh grader, has just given a verbal commitment to the University of Southern California to be their quarterback in 2015. Okay, so he is a wunderkind in the eyes of his personal coach Steve Clarkson, but dang, isn't 13 a little too young or am I being naive?

Football is such a physically demanding sport, so it leads me to wonder if USC and his coach aren't literally putting the cart before the horse? Will this youngest, who is six feet tall, continue to mature physically to withstand the rigors of the highest level of collegiate football? No-one knows what the future hold. Why can't they just let him be a kid and grow into the sport? My 12 year old son is a phenomenal soccer player and we wouldn't commit him to Chelsea, Real Madrid, Arsenal or AC Milan at this stage. Let the kid be a kid.
