Two students, Regan Webber and Matt Thieu, were shot at Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Co., by Bruco Strong Eagle Eastwood, 32, Tuesday afternoon. He faces two counts of attempted murder, according to the Jefferson County sheriff's office. According to CBS4 Denver, the injuries are" non-life threatening." Still, I can't help but remember the massacre at Columbine High School, also in Littleton, in 1999. The suspect, in this latest incident, is an adult male who is in police custody.The incident reportedly occurred shortly after classes ended at 3:05 p. m. Deer Creek Middle School is located at 9201 W. Columbine Drive and is 78 percent white and eight percent Hispanic. According to the Denver Post, Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the sheriff's department, said the two juveniles have been transported to a hospital. He said one victim was shot inside the school, while the other was shot outside. He said the perpetrator used a "high-powered weapon" in the shooting. The alleged perpetrator has had a history of mental illness and gun violence.
The gun violence is escalating in this country and something drastic has to be done. Too many innocent people are losing their lives or being seriously injured. Yesterday I reported about a heinous act committed by Mark Bailey in which he killed his wife of 19 years and their two children, before turning the gun on himself. This is unconscionable.
