Remember the Duke University lacrosse rape case? Well, the accuser, Crystal Gale Mangum, 31, is in the news again. This time she has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, five counts of arson, assault and battery, communicating threats, three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, injury to personal property, identity theft and resisting a public officer. According to WRAL.com, she was arrested late Wednesday after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Milton Walker, setting his clothes on fire in a bathtub and for threatening to stab him. Isn't this a throwback to O.J. Simpson? He just kept popping up in the news after he was acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. As they say, Karma is a b**tch!

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police received a 911 call about a domestic dispute at 2220 Lincoln St. Authorities said they believe the call came from one of the three children inside the house. When officers arrived, they found Mangum and her boyfriend, Milton Walker, 33, fighting. According to police documents, Mangum scratched, punched and threw objects at Walker and told him, "I'm going to stab you, (expletive)!" She then went into a bathroom and set his clothes on fire in the bathtub, police said. Officers called the fire department to put out the flames. No one was injured.

Milton was not charged in the incident, police said. The three children inside the house, ages 3, 9 and 10, were not injured. Police charged Mangum with identity theft because she gave them a fake name, "Marella Mangum," and age, authorities said. She also resisted the officers who responded to the scene, according to police documents. Source: WRAL.com
I am sure law enforcement was already upset with her for the fallout from the Duke lacrosse rape case. She is being held in the Durham County Jail on no bond. She is scheduled to appear before a judge Thursday morning. I recall when the rape allegations broke, Rev. Jesse Jackson swooped in and promised to pay for her education and defended her vehemently, only to find out she lied that three white members of the lacrosse team trapped her inside a bathroom, raped and sexually assaulted her, during an exotic dancing engagement at a party the team held. The three young men -- David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann -- were literally hauled through the fire at the hands of the media, the prosecutor Mike Nifong, who was disbarred and his reputation ruined for ethical misconduct in the case. The case was eventually dismissed by North Carolina's attorney for lack of evidence.
