VIDEO: Stuyvesant High School Students Suspended for Racist Rap Video Targeting Black Classmate

Group of white students at Stuyvesant High School suspended for racist and vile lyrics in rap video targeting black classmate.

When I think Stuyvesant High School, located in New York City, I don't exactly think racism, but that's exactly what a music video made by a group of white teenage boys evokes. The lyrics are vulgar and misogynistic. It also includes many uses of the word n*gger.  The song allegedly targets a black classmates with the racist lyrics. Here's an excerpt (H/T Gothamist):

You some whack bitch chillin' in the projects. Mothers jump to fathers like Frogger… Stereotypical black yeah she's kinda loud, but when it's black American day she's not proud I know that you come from the whack town, kinda rich, your try and act too black but your just a white [expletive] in the inside... You black and you so f--- grimy. What'cha gonna do? Call your black squad n----?
According to media reports, the boys involved in making this despicable video have been suspended. It is a shame that we have to deal with such vulgarity. It makes one wonder what is being said at the dinner tables of these boys at nights.

The former Stuyvesant student who posted the video said she did it to raise awareness. "My intention in posting the video on YouTube was not only to make sure that these boys were disciplined accordingly but to encourage a meaningful dialog (sic) about race relations at prestigious institutions," Alexis Marie Wint said in a statement. This incident will put the high school under public scrutiny. You see, the ethnic breakdown warrants a close look -- About 72% of the students are Asian, 24% are white and 3% are Latino, 1.2% black, compared with 16% Asian, 13% white, 39% Latino and 32 % black in high schools citywide (NY Daily News statistics, except for black enrollment at the school). This video should spark a bigger debate of the misogynistic and vile lyrics coming from many rappers, who call women bitches and hoes, as well as use the word n*gger ad nauseam. We can't have it both ways. Black rappers shouldn't get a pass at using vile lyrics while whites get kicked out of school or their contracts cancelled if they are rappers.
