Two Buchanan county VA sheriff's deputies Cameron Neil Justus and William Ezra Stiltner fatally shot to death by larceny suspect Randy Gilbert Newberry, two other deputies in critical condition.
More sad news to report in the ranks of law enforcement. The Virginia State Police has released the names of the victims and the shooter in the deadly rampage in Buchanan County Sunday. Buchanan County sheriff's deputies Cameron Neil Justus, 41, and William Ezra Stiltner, 46, were shot to death by Randy Gilbert Newberry with a high powered rifle. Additionally, sheriff's deputies Eric Dwayne Rasnake and Shane Earl Charles were shot multiple times, but they were able to crawl to a nearby residence to call for help, according to WVVA. The deputies were responding to a robbery call at Rogers Service Center in Vansant.
A 10-year veteran of the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Justus is survived by a wife, daughter, and step-son. Stiltner, a seven-year veteran, is survived by a wife and two children.
Rasnake remains in ICU at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Charles is being treated at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. Both are listed in critical condition. Source
Buchanan county hasn't seen such an outburst of violence that claimed the lives of two of their deputies in 40 years. This is a sad, sad turn of events. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased and wounded officers.
