San Antonio police officer Stephanie Brown killed in head-on collision with suspected drunk driver as she responded to call for service on Interstate 35.
San Antonio Police Officer Stephanie Brown was killed responding to a wrong-way driver call on Interstate 35. The driver, suspected to be drunk, reportedly crashed into the officer's patrol car. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Brown, 27, was scheduled to be off at the time of the crash, which occurred at about 2 a.m.
The motorist, identified only as a 31-year-old man until his family is notified, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police said the driver may have been intoxicated.
Brown was a three-year veteran of the force and had picked up a shift from a fellow officer, Police Chief William McManus said. She was taken to University Hospital, where she died around 2:50 a.m., according to the Bexar County medical examiner's office.
She is the second female SAPD officer to die in the line of duty. Officer Patricia Calderon, 26, drowned in Salado Creek in 1988 while pursuing a suspected shoplifter. Source
