Claire Abdeldaim caught trying to sneak nearly $170,000 in cash in underwear through JFK airport to avoid paying taxes on proceeds from land sale in Sudan.
Claire Abdeldaim was caught trying to sneak nearly $170,000 in cash in her underwear at JFK International Airport in an attempt to avoid paying taxes on the sale of property in Sudan, according to the
NY Daily News. Now it's going to cost her far more than the $170K to settle her legal mess.
Claire Abdeldaim's real estate booty consisted of 1,699 $100 bills, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer George Wolynski testified Monday in Brooklyn Federal Court."We got a big one," Wolynski told his supervisor after seizing the cash last June.
Abdeldaim, 64, had sewn the bills into her bloomers to get the money out of Sudan, where she had sold a tract of land owned by her late husband.
During a layover in Amsterdam on a flight from Khartoum, she removed the underwear in a bathroom and stashed it in her purse. When Abdeldaim arrived in New York, she claimed she had only $17,000 in her purse. But Wolynski noticed the fabric stuffed in the purse and became suspicious. "I was quite shocked at the amount of currency," he said. Source: NY Daily News
Ms. Abdeldaim, who is free on $100,000 bail, faces up to 21 months in prison if convicted of the smuggling charge, the Daily News said. A fool and her money are soon parted. How is it she's from Haiti and has property in Sudan? You can't run from paying taxes and she should have done the right thing from the start. Why is her bail that high? That's the same bond handed down to
Oscar Fuller, who punched Lana Rosas in the face over a parking spot. She's in a coma and fighting for her life. This woman was sneaking her own money into the country. Let me add that Oscar Fuller has broken the law before and was charged with assault. So, what gives?
