SHOCK: Elderly Man in Police Custody After Shooting Nurse, Self at Danbury Hospital

SHOCK: An elderly man, being treated for a heart condition at Danbury Hospital, fires his gun several times, hitting a male nurse before the weapon was wrestled away from him. He was shot while he was being subdued by hospital staff, according to the News Times.

Police said neither man's injuries are life-threatening. According to the News Times, a nurse on the scene said her friend, another female nurse, saw a male patient sitting on the floor when she alighted from an elevator. She reportedly went over to ask if he needed help and that's when he pulled out a gun.

The shooting occurred at about 2:34 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect, an elderly man, has been taken into custody. The hospital issued a statement saying, "The situation is under control, the building is not under lock-down and normal operations are underway."
