Army Veteran Joseph Jesk Being Held on $1 Million Bail in the Shooting Death of his Wife, Heather Jesk

Army veteran Joseph Jesk held on $1 million bail after allegedly shooting wife, Heather, in the forehead during argument.

Army veteran Joseph Jesk, 23, was accused of fatally shooting his wife, Heather Jesk, during a heated argument on Saturday. His bail was set at $1 million on Monday, for this crime, which his lawyer has characterized as a "tragic accident." According to the Southtown Star, Jesk and his wife argued in the basement of their Oak Lawn home in Illinois, after attending a fundraiser on Saturday. During the argument, prosecutors say he shot his wife in the forehead. Jesk recently returned from an 11-month tour of duty in Iraq. It's amazing how this incident flew under the mainstream media's radar.

Jesk has been barred from seeing his two children -- an 11-month old and a two year old -- and having contact with his late wife's parents. His attorney, Michael Clancy, said his client had been "upset from time to time" about his service, according to the Southtown Star.

Jesk was charged on Sunday afternoon with one count of murder. The police were reportedly called to his home at 10:47 p.m. Saturday night, where they found his wife lying on the basement floor with a gunshot wound to the head, Oak Lawn Police Div. Chief Mike Kaufman told the Southtown Star. Her death has been ruled a homicide. Jesk initially fled the home, but he called police shortly thereafter to turn himself in.

Jesk reportedly returned from military duty in mid-January and had been looking for work. If Joseph Jesk didn't display any abusive behavior to his wife before he went to Iraq, then something went terribly wrong by the time he returned home and it's very possible that post-traumatic stress disorder has played a role. The reality is that no-one really knows what a soldier goes through on the front lines, unless they have walked around in those shoes. It is a sad turn of events and if he is convicted for murdering his wife, then he must pay the consequences.
