Off-Duty Police Officer Brian Stevenson Dies After Being Struck with Thrown Object During Fight Over Parking Space

Detective Brian Stevenson, an 18-year veteran with the Baltimore Police Department, was killed Saturday night in a dispute over a parking space, according to media reports. He was reportedly out celebrating his birthday with friends. He would have turned 38 Sunday.
"The preliminary investigation revealed an altercation took place over a parking place," police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. As the dispute escalated, he said, "A suspect pulled a rock or large piece of concrete from the ground and struck the officer with it."

Stevenson sustained head trauma and died later that night at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The suspects were described only as a man and a woman. "Once they struck the officer they fled," the spokesman said. Source: Fox News
Isn't fighting over a parking space very petty? This man didn't have to lose his life over something so utterly ridiculous. According to the Baltimore Sun, police said the suspect hurled either a piece of concrete or a rock at the officer, striking him in the right temple and causing him to fall to the ground. He was rushed to hospital after he lost consciousness, where he later died. Officer Stevenson leaves behind a wife and three children.
