Chicago Correctional Officer, Alexander Rojo, Fatally Shoots Estranged Wife, then Commits Suicide

SHOCK: Alexander Rojo, a Cook County Jail corrections officer, fatally shot his estranged wife and then turned the gun on himself in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood Monday. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Rojo, 50, was walking with his estranged wife Monday afternoon when he shot her several times, police said. He then reportedly sat on a curb and shot himself in the head.
Rojo joined the Cook County Sheriff's Department in 1998. He was assigned to an elite unit that responds to emergencies at Cook County Jail. Department spokesman Steve Patterson described Rojo as popular with his co-workers, particularly with younger officers whom he mentored. Source
This is another sad case involving domestic violence. I have been a tireless advocate for women and men experiencing abuse -- verbal, physical, mental & any other forms it may manifest itself -- from their spouses or significant others. Clearly this could have been avoided. This woman's life didn't have to be taken. Divorce does crazy things to some people and it's sad. He could have left her alone in peace, not take her life. Just walk away and start a new. That's all.
