Former Dallas Trooper Arturo Perez Faces Criminal Charge in Excessive Use of Force on Woman Accused of DUI

Arturo Perez, a former Texas state trooper, faces a misdemeanor charge after he slammed a handcuffed drunken driving suspect face first into a concrete highway divider last October, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Perez, who has since resigned, was accused of using excessive force against the woman after she crashed into a wall near Lemmon Avenue, KDFW-TV (Channel 4) reports.

We often focus on stories involving police brutality to educate our readers about what is occurring in our communities. Still, there is no excuse for driving under the influence. This woman was as much at fault as the officer. She could have caused an accident that took the life of an innocent person. The fact that the charges against her were dropped sends the wrong message. Her actions should not be negated by what the officer did.
