Why must gun violence mar the lives of so many people? Clifford Miller Jr., allegedly shot and killed one, who has been identified as his father, and wounded five others in a shooting rampage in Gainesville, Fla., yesterday. The police has disclosed the names of the victims:  Cedric Joiner, 36, Lloyd Dunn, 67, Paul Anthony Sr., 43, and Vincent Saller, 43, all listed in critical condition, and Anthony Mitchell, 44, who was in fair condition. The names of the deceased have not been released. The suspected gunman was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to the Gainesville Sun, a  .38 revolver was used in the shooting, according to police. Apparently at some point, Miller, had to stop and reload at some point, said Gainesville Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tscharna Senn.

The first 911 call about the shooting came in at 4:03 p.m. The suspect was located at 4:16 p.m., according to officers. All shots were fired from a car."We firmly we believe he acted alone. We don't have any indication it was planned," Senn said.

Investigators said they are not releasing the exact number of shots fired because they are still counting bullet holes in vehicles. Officers also said they may not be able to release information about how many shots the victims sustained because of current medical laws. Miller apparently died of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to investigators. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday to confirm the cause of death.  Source

Officers did not release any more information about what prompted the shooting and reported they still are searching for a motive.

From what I have read, he seems to have had a history of mental illness. It is time we treated mental illness as a disease and not sweep it under a rug. Neither investigators nor his family members could say what provoked this shooting rampage that left victims in five different locations.
