GA Chief Deputy Kevin Roberts Shot & Killed at Front Door, Suspect Reportedly Commits Suicide

Greene County Chief Deputy Kevin Roberts shot and killed as he opened door at his Georgia home, suspect Sherman Branch commits suicide.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Greene County, Ga., chief deputy Kevin Roberts, who was shot and killed Sunday morning at his home. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, investigators believe the suspect, who has been identified as Sherman Branch, killed himself shortly thereafter. Why couldn't this person, who was obviously unhappy, just killed himself and leave the officer alone?
Roberts, 48, is believed to have been killed by a target of a sheriff's office investigation, Greene County Sheriff Chris Houston said. The sheriff told Channel 2 that Roberts was not even involved in that operation.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, fatally shot Roberts as he answered the door of his Siloam home at 8:27 a.m, Houston said.

Houston said Branch, who is a convicted criminal, was involved in a high-level undercover drug investigation, Houston said. But he said Roberts was not even involved in the investigation. Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution
Sad, sad situation. This deputy was not even involved in the operation involving this suspect. Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Greene, who had been a chief deputy since 1999, having previously worked as a police officer.
