Eric Rutledge Charged with Murder After Courtney Daily Dies from Gunshot Wound in Seven Fields Home

Eric Rutledge charged with criminal homicide in death of friend Courtney Daily, shot in the shoulder in Seven Fields home.

SHOCK: Colorado Springs teen Courtney Daily was reportedly shot and killed by Eric Rutledge, 18, around 9:30 p.m. in Seven Fields Tuesday night. According to Pittsburgh's KDKA, Rutledge has been charged with one count of criminal homicide.

Rutledge and Daily were watching a movie when they believed someone had broken into the house. After determining that there was no intruder, Rutledge had a shotgun pointed in Daily’s direction he pulled the trigger not knowing that the gun was loaded. She was struck in the shoulder and was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. Rutledge is currently being held in the Butler County Jail. Why do people continue to play with guns? If that's really what happened. There has been some news circulating that alcohol might have been involved. It is also being reported that the two have known each other for about 15 years and Daily was in town to visit. I guess the question that begs to be asked is where did Eric Rutledge get the gun? And why he was so quick to point it at his friend?
