SHOCK: Minchillo McLester, of southwest Atlanta, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Madison McLester. The couple had been married for less than two weeks. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Madison McLester turned a Georgia State University internship into a fulltime job as an accountant in Georgia-Pacific's financial reporting group. Her colleagues are said to be very devastated by her untimely death at the hands of her husband.

Just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Atlanta Police responded to a call that a woman had been shot on Oak Street in West End. They discovered the victim, Madison McLester, 25, on the floor in her residence at 1025 Oak Street. She was dead from several gunshot wounds.

Her husband, Minchillo McLester, 29, was found walking nude on Oak Street. After being interviewed by Atlanta Homicide Detectives, he was taken into custody and charged with murder. Source:  11 Alive News

Minchillo McLester will make his first court appearance shortly. I am at a loss for words with this incident. Mrs. McLester is said to have done volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity, among other projects. She will surely be missed.

Jamaican-Born British Retiree, Hortense McNeil, 82, Found Stabbed to Death in Hopewell, Hanover Home After Multiple Burglaries

What is going on in some parts of Jamaica that were normally quiet and relatively crime-free? Hortense McNeil, a former resident of England, who retired and went back to Jamaica, was viciously stabbed to death by a dirty POS in her home in the Pond Piece community of Hopewell, Hanover. This hits close to home because I grew up in the same community, once an upper class neighborhood. My parents knew this woman quite well. My heart ached when my father called to tell us about this heinous act of violence against a decent and law-abiding woman, whose only wish was to return to the land of her birth to live out the rest of her days. This is a travesty. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

HOMICIDE detectives in Hanover are now probing the macabre murder of 82-year-old Hortense McNeil, a pensioner of Pondpiece district in Hopewell, Hanover. McNiel's body was found at her home with multiple stab wounds yesterday evening.

The Sandy Bay Police are that about 5:30 pm they were called to the area by residents who had stumbled across the body when they had gone to her home in search of her.

The residents had noticed that she had been missing from the community for some time and had become alarmed when repeated calls to her cellular phone went unanswered. Source: Jamaica Observer

This isn't the Jamaica I once knew. Lawlessness and gangs have taken over certain pockets of the country and people are literally prisoners in their own homes. There is a serious societal breakdown that says only the well-connected and educated can get the best jobs and reach the highest levels of professionalism. Once you are poor and uneducated, you are relegated to a life of penury, still that is no excuse to burglarize the homes of others and steal their property. Ms. McNeil's home has been burglarized on more than one occasion and her home ransacked and her hard-earned money stolen. My mother recalls quite clearly one of these burglaries in which she came face-to-face with the thief. She even filed a complaint with the police in Sandy Bay and one person was sent to prison for the crime. I have to wonder if this person was released and came back out of revenge to kill her. Somewhere walking around Hopewell, Hanover, is a piece of sh*t who needs to be locked up for the rest of his life. Who picks on an elderly person? A POS. I pray the forensics team will be able to find tissue under her finger nails from the killer. Her body was reportedly found with a knife in her hand. Presumably the murder weapon.

This murder is sending a bad message to Jamaican-born retirees living abroad who want to return home. My parents worked hard for many years in America and then retired and went back to Jamaica. I often wonder if this was the best move on their part due to a number of factors, most prominent, the high crime rates on the island. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Hortense McNeil. This is a tragedy on so many levels. We cannot afford to allow such a beautiful island to be overtaken by scum in the society. The British government should reclaim the island because it is obvious both parties, the ruling Jamaica Labor Party and the Peoples National Party can't govern the island, much less weed out the rampant crime.

We would also welcome a statement from the Prime Minister of Jamaica or the Minister of Justice, since there seems to be a trend with violence against returning residents to the island.

President of the Returning Residents Association, Percival La Touche, said immediate attention needed to be paid to the life of returned resident as, in the last seven years, 209 have been murdered. He said that, with an average of 30 deaths per year, it is clear that criminals do not believe they will be punished when they kill persons who went abroad and worked hard before returning to the island.

Nathan Stiles, Kansas City High School Athlete, Dies After Suffering "Traumatic Injury" During Football Game

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Spring Hill High School, KS, football player, Nathan Stiles, who died early Friday morning after he became unconscious during a varsity football game Thursday night. According to the Kansas City Star, Stiles was taken by life flight to the University of Kansas Medical Center where he died about 4 a.m. Spring Hill was playing Osawatomie High.

According to reporting partner KSHB-TV, a spokesman with Miami County EMS says they got a call to Osawatomie’s Lynn Dickey Field about 8:23 p.m. Thursday on a “traumatic injury.” The district has not commented on the circumstances of Nathan’s injury.

Nathan was the homecoming king at Spring Hill, a Kansas Class 4A high school with about 580 students. Spring Hill beat Osawatomie 99-72. His father is Miami County Commissioner Ron Stiles, who is also the president of Spring Hill Oil. Source: Kansas City Star

Both of my kids play soccer in a soccer club and I am always bothered somewhat by the possibility of injuries, but I can't keep them at home doing nothing. That wouldn't be fair to them either. My oldest son wanted to play football and my husband and I declined because of the rising incidents of head injury to young players. I am not sure what caused the death of this young man, or even if more can be done to lessen any possible injuries, it is sad nonetheless that a promising life has been cut short. The mother in me says something can be done to stop the rising head injuries to young players.

Group Founded by Apostle Claver T. Kamau-Imani Erects Billboard in Houston Saying "GOP is the New Black"

Raging Elephants group, founded by Apostle Claver T. Kamau-Imani, who claimed Martin Luther King Jr., was a Republican, says "GOP is the new black."

Is the Grand Ole Party, or the GOP, the new black? Er, I don't think so, but I will say that the Democratic Party has taken the black vote for granted and many blacks are more conservative than they care to mention. Personally, there are many issues that the Republican Party embraces that I agree with, such as smaller government, more reliance on self, among other things, but the GOP that existed during President George W. Bush's tenure, isn't the one I would give the time of day and some members of the party are border-line racists and are fanning the flames of racial tensions, specifically some of the things said about President Barack Obama -- he's a bigger threat than Al Qaeda, come to mind.

Still, it seems a little strange for the Republican Party to embrace the black vote, since we have a black president in office, who remains quite popular with the black community. There's a new billboard in Houston that seems to think the Republican Party is reaching out to black voters. In other words, the GOP is coming in vogue with black voters. Really? Isn't this the same party whose de facto leader Rush Limbaugh has called the president all kinds of derogatory names?

Well, according to the Raging Elephants, a conservative group devoted to "growing the ranks of conservative voters through racial diversity." The group's Web site states that another such billboard is going up in Dayton, Ohio, according to Raw Story. The group was founded by Apostle Claver T. Kamau-Imani, a senior pastor at the Corinthian Christian Empowerment Center in Houston, Raw Story said.

This is the same group that stated the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican, quite opposite of his immediate family's beliefs. Well, let's see what John Boehner and Sen. Mitch McConnell will do for the black community, if they take the majority in the House and Senate next Tuesday. 

Sean Giroir, Savannah College of Art & Design Student, Shot & Killed, Police Looking for 3 Suspects

Sean Giroir, a student at Savannah College of Art and Design, was shot Thursday afternoon and later died from his wounds that night. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Savannah-Chatham police say they are searching for three suspects in his death.

Metro police spokesman Julian Miller says Giroir was from Houston, Texas. Miller says 21-year-old Mike Levi also was wounded and was being treated at the same hospital. Miller says officers responded to reports of the shooting and found Giroir and Levi with gunshot wounds. Police Sgt. Robert Gavin says three men had taken items from a house, and a struggle had ensued outside the residence when shots were fired. Source

This is a sad situation. Here we have a young man trying to better himself by getting an education and a bunch of thugs, most likely with long rap sheets, decide to take what doesn't belong to them and kill this man in the process. I must also talk about the untimely death of my mother's neighbor in Jamaica. Ms. Hortense McNeil, retired and moved back to Jamaica from England. She had been robbed repeatedly and yesterday, her body was found in her home. When will we take a stand and say no to the rising crime rates both in the U.S. and Jamaica? When? How many more people will have to die before the cops take a zero-tolerance stance and people start telling law enforcement what they know instead of hiding behind the ridiculous no-snitch rule?

UPDATE: Thanks to a reader who pointed out that a large stash of drugs was found in the home. Still, I can't say with any certainty that the drugs belonged to the decedent. According to the Savannah Morning News, agents from the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and hazardous materials technicians were working late Thursday to remove a large stash of drugs found in the residence, Metro police spokesman Julian Miller said. The newspaper also stated that three white male suspects had taken items from a house and a struggle had ensued outside the residence when shots were fired. They later fled in a dark gray Honda CRV with tinted windows, the newspaper said. 

UPDATE#2:  According to WSAV-TV, John Andrew Adams, 20, of an Althea Parkway address; Daniel M. Izzo, 18, of the 100 block of Runner Road, and Alex Brian Cowart, 21, of Savannah, will be extradited to Savannah to face charges of murder and aggravated assault. The three men were arrested in Sandy Springs.

Bill Clinton Reportedly Encouraged Black Democratic Candidate Kendrick Meek to Drop out of Florida Senate Race

Bill Clinton could become mired in another slight against a black candidate. You will recall he upset many blacks during the 2008 presidential campaign when he called then-candidate Barack Obama's meteoric rise a "fairy-tale." Well, this time, the black candidate involved is Kendrick Meek, the Florida Democratic senatorial candidate running against independent Charlie Crist and Republican candidate Marco Rubio. Bill Clinton reportedly sought to persuade Rep. Kendrick Meek to drop out of the race during a trip to the Sunshine State last week, and get this -- he nearly succeeded.

According to Politico, Kendrick Meek agreed twice to drop out and endorse Gov. Crist in an effort to stop Rubio from prevailing in the upcoming elections. I interviewed Kendrick Meek a few months ago and I must say I was not impressed with his responses to many of my questions, specifically how he would help the people of Florida stem the high unemployment and foreclosure rates. I was also less than impressed with his response to my question about being tied to President Obama's largely unpopular agenda.

Let's get back to the appearance of former President Bill Clinton's meddling. I have to ask if President Barack Obama knew about this? It's hard to believe that such an important senate race wouldn't be on his radar. I am not surprised that Kendrick Meek has come off as waffling and spineless in this mess. It shows that he is throwing in the towel on his campaign and his bid to become a senator. Okay, so the odds are against him, but to even entertain the thought of stepping aside to give Crist a chance to beat Rubio is nothing short of a slap in the face of his constituents.

Veteran San Diego Police Officer Christopher Wilson, Shot and Killed in Apartment Shootout

SHOCK: Officer Christopher Wilson, a veteran San Diego police officer, was shot and killed during a shootout inside an apartment in the Paradise Hills area of southeast San Diego. According to Fox News, officers were assisting the U.S. Marshal's Service and probation officers in a check on an assault with a deadly weapon suspect and were inside the apartment when the suspect opened fire at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Andra Brown said.

"Officer Christopher Wilson, a 17 year veteran of the Department, was removed from the apartment and transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he later died as result of the wounds sustained during the exchange of gunfire," said San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown. 

Wilson was shot at a Skyline-area apartment complex, setting off an hours-long standoff between law enforcement and several armed suspects.

San Diego 6 News reporter Lynn Stuart reports the standoff ended shortly before 7 a.m. after police fired flash bangs and tear gas into the apartment.   When they entered they found a man and woman dead in an apartment with several guns around them. Source: San Diego 6

Veteran San Diego Police Officer Shot & Killed in Apartment Shoot-Out With Deadly Weapon Suspect

SHOCK: Officer Chris Wilson, a veteran San Diego police officer, was shot and killed during a shootout inside an apartment in the Paradise Hills area of southeast San Diego. According to Fox News, officers were assisting the U.S. Marshal's Service and probation officers in a check on an assault with a deadly weapon suspect and were inside the apartment when the suspect opened fire at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Andra Brown said.

Three officers, including the fatally wounded officer, returned fire and backed out of the apartment in the Paradise Hills area of southeast San Diego. "There was a hail of bullets," Brown said when asked to estimate the number of gunshots.

Officers carried the wounded officer out of the building and he died at a hospital. "There was heroic action by the officers," the lieutenant said.

The type of weapon wasn't immediately known. The name of the officer is being withheld. Brown would only say he was a veteran officer with more than 15 years on the force. Source

Midland, Ark., School District President, Clint McCance, Under Fire for Anti-Gay Comments on Facebook Page

Midland, Ark., school board president, Clint McCance, under fire for anti-gay comments on Facebook page, saying he "loves the fact that gay people give one another AIDS.

Arkansas Department of Education has egg on its face over anti-gay comments Midland School District President Clint McCance posted on his personal Facebook page saying he wanted gay people to commit suicide, according to the Advocate. He reportedly used derogatory terms, such as "queer" and "fag" repeatedly and even promised to disown his own children if they were gay, as well as stated he enjoys "the fact that [gay people] often give each other AIDS and die," according to CNN. What an incredibly mean and ugly thing to say.

A strongly worded statement signed by Dean Stanley, superintendent of the Midland School District, disavowed the remarks. "The district strives to foster an environment that discourages all forms of bullying," the statement read, "and an environment that encourages a safe and productive educational climate of all of our students. The district is very diligent in pursuing and addressing bullying of any variety on our campuses." Source: CNN

I find it absolutely abhorrent that he cannot be removed from his position because of state law. According to the Advocate, Julie Thompson, a spokeswoman for the state's Department of Education, said it may be impossible for him to be removed from office as a board member in the Midland school district.

“In Arkansas law, the only way to recall a school board member is over a felony [committed by him or her] or absentee issues,” said Julie Johnson Thompson, the director of communications for the Arkansas Department of Education in Little Rock. Source: The Advocate

There should be zero tolerance for anyone in public office, serving on a school board, or in any similar capacities serving the public, to get away with making such derogatory and insensitive statements. He was literally advocating violence against people who have a right to live as they choose.

Grady Hospital CEO Michael Young Apologizes for Saying Residents of Fulton County, Ga., Should "Shine His Shoes" for Turning Troubled Hospital Around

The head of Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital, Michael Young, has issued an apology for derogatory comments he made at a meeting of local business leaders. According to WSB-TV, while he spoke at a breakfast meeting of the Buckhead Business Association, he bragged about how quickly he turned the hospital's financial mess around. He then said that the people of Fulton County “should want to shine my shoes. In 2007, Fulton County gave Grady $76 million. This year Fulton County is going to give $50 million. So I have reduced your tax exposure by $26 million.”

Young sent an apology Wednesday afternoon: “My statement was terribly insensitive to Fulton County taxpayers and does not reflect my true feelings. Please accept my heartfelt apology for this mistake and please keep in mind that it came from an innocent place. I often get excited about the changes we’ve made at Grady and the impact the health system is having on the community, and sometimes my words get ahead of my brain.”

Young took over as CEO of Grady Hospital in 2008, with the hospital on the verge of financial ruin. In May 2010, the hospital announced it was operating at a profit. Source: WST-TV

Wow, telling people in the Deep South to "shine his shoes" somehow brings back memories of Jim Crow to me, considering the fact that Fulton County has a high concentration of blacks.Why utter words you know you'll regret? He could have simply said, the residents of Fulton County got the benefit of his stellar record of turning businesses around.

Declan Sullivan, Notre Dame Junior, Dies After Tower Topples as He Filmed Football Practice

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Declan Sullivan, a junior at Notre Dame University, who was killed Wednesday after the tower from which he was filming football practice fell over. According to the IndyStar, Sullivan, who is from Long Grove, Ill., was transported from the LaBar practice complex to a South Bend hospital where he later died.

Authorities were investigating the incident. The hydraulic scissor lift, which can be lowered or raised depending on needs, stretched across a nearby street. Winds in the area were gusting to 51 mph at the time, according to the National Weather Service, and the team practiced indoors Tuesday because of the blustery conditions. Source: IndyStar

There is an unwritten rule that parents aren't supposed to bury their children. I know that doesn't always work that way. As a parent, I am deeply saddened by Declan Sullivan's death. I pray his family will find solace knowing he died doing what he loved.

Memphis City Councilwoman Barbara Swearengen Indicted on Charge of Official Misconduct for Allegedly Paying $5 Bribe

SHAME: Memphis City councilwoman, Barbara Swearengen Ware, who is black, has been indicted by a state grand jury investigating practices at the Shelby County Clerk's office, according to the Commercial Appeal newspaper. What she is accused of doing is just disgraceful. Her name reportedly surfaced in a probe of auto registration practices, where eight auto title clerks were charged in April 2009 with taking bribes. According to the Commercial Appeal, three of the clerks accepted cash from Ware. Please keep a straight face when you read how much she allegedly paid these clerks - $5. So, she was willing to ruin her career over a measly sum of money. A warrant has been issued for her arrest. Unbelievable. $5.

It should also be noted that Ms. Swearengen is currently hospitalized. I hate to be a cynic, but why do many politicians or even other famous people, mysteriously end up in a hospital after being accused of a crime? It is a shame that her political career may come to a screeching halt as a result of these allegations.

The grand jury returned a felony indictment weeks ago, but Ware hasn’t been served or taken into custody since she entered the hospital roughly three to four weeks ago, sources said. Source: Commercial Appeal

I have to ask the question, why in the world would they prosecute her for $5, when I am pretty sure hardened criminals are being released every day from Memphis prisons, quite oblivious to the safety of the public. It will cost far more than the measly $5 she is accused of bribing the clerks with, to litigate her case.

Jamaican Runner Dale Dunn, Senior at Coppin State, in Critical Condition After Being Shot During Armed Robbery

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dale Dunn, a cross-country runner at Coppin State University, who was shot during an armed robbery Tuesday. According to WBAL-TV, the incident occurred at about 10:15 p.m., while he walked from a supermarket to his home.

University officials said Dunn, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, is on a full scholarship to the school and maintains a 4.0 grade point average. Officials said he is an academic All-American and is majoring in management science.

The university said the off-campus incident is uncommon, especially because Coppin State has one of the lowest incidences of crime of all the University System of Maryland institutions. Officials said the entire school is saddened by the incident. Source: WBAL-TV

It is not clear if police have found any suspects or if anyone is in custody. Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to Dale Dunn, who was seeking to better himself and achieve his dreams. I would venture to say the thug(s) who shot him is/are no stranger to a jail cell. If you have any information, please contact the local police.

Activist Says African & Caribbean Students Often Target of Bullying & Violence in Philadelphia Schools

There is a disturbing trend taking root in Philadelphia, Pa. It seems that the growing population of African and Caribbean immigrant students there are often the target of racial teasing and violence, according to Philly.com.Carol Bangura, a community activist testified before the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations about the taunts and violence these students continue to face on a daily basis.

As an immigrant from Sierra Leone 30 years ago, Carol Bangura was teased and targeted, labeled a behavior problem, and kicked out of several schools. "A lot of what the kids are experiencing now, I experienced years ago," Bangura said in testimony before the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations. "It's time to stop."

Bangura said that while the Philadelphia School District had been cooperative and met with her on several occasions, violence against African and Caribbean students was still a problem. Students are picked on because of their accents, clothes, or even the way they smell, and little is done about it, according to Bangura. Bullying, Bangura said, occurs every day, even in elementary school. Source: Philly.com

My parents and I migrated to the U.S. from Jamaica eons ago and I can't say I was bullied or treated horribly. What I will say is that the quality of education I got in Jamaica during the late 1970s and early 1980s was second to the British education system. When I started college, I had already mastered the foundation course materials in the 11th grade. It is shocking and disheartening to see that children from other countries face the added burden of trying to escape being bullied or subjected to violence.

Chicago Police Officer, Donnie Lewis, Hits Female Security Guard in Parking Dispute, Charged with Aggravated Battery

There's a bully in the Chicago Police Department. Donnie Lewis, a 16-year veteran of the department, has been charged with punching a female security guard in a parking lot dispute in west Hillside, according to the Chicago Tribune. Lewis, who is black, was off-duty at the time, but that doesn't make it any less serious.

Lewis has been charged with one count of aggravated battery in a public way and aggravated battery to a private security officer, both felonies.  He appeared in court Tuesday, where a judge ordered him held in lieu of $40,000 bail, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Lewis was also ordered to turn in his guns, give up his Firearm Owner's Identification Card and not have any contact with the victim,  Andrew Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office, said Lewis has been "relieved of his police powers" while the case is being investigated.

The 49-year-old woman, a private security officer, told police the two had a dispute over a parking space. She told police she had been punched in the mouth, losing a tooth. She then pointed Lewis out to police. The official said the officer denied punching the woman but gave two different versions of the story. Source

To make matters worse, Lewis, who is charged with upholding the law, couldn't keep his story straight. I would venture to say, this isn't the first time he has engaged in such abusive behavior. I'm pretty sure someone else has borne the brunt of his anger. If the allegations are true, Donnie Lewis is a disgrace to the police force.

Sharon Marley, Daughter of the Late Bob Marley, Arrested & Charged with Child Abuse Against Autistic Boy in Jamaica

SHAME: Sharon Marley, daughter of the legendary Bob Marley, had her bail extended during her appearance in a Jamaican family court to answer charges of child cruelty Tuesday morning.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Ms. Marley was arrested and charged after the mother of a six year old autistic boy, who attends a learning center she operates, accused her of being physically abusive to her child.

The child was reportedly playing with a toy when Marley allegedly carried him inside a room. Shortly after the child was heard screaming. It is also alleged that the child had bruises and bite marks.

The boy, who is autistic, is the son of a woman who works at the learning centre which is located at Lady Musgrave Road. Marley was ordered to return to court on November 8. Source

Well, I hope the allegations are false and I will reserve judgment until the case has been tried and a verdict handed down. No matter how you look at this, it is a downright shame that this child was allegedly bitten and bruised.

Former PA Middle School Vice Principal, Charles Daniels Hurst, Held on Child Abuse Charges

SHOCK: Charles Daniels Hurst, 37, a former vice principal at Pennbrooke Middle School in north Pennsylvania, was ordered held for trial Tuesday morning on charges that he influenced a student to masturbate and then tell him about it for money.

The charges alleged in the criminal complaint, which was filed Sept. 24, accuse Hurst of one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and corrupting the morals of a minor.

The complaint was made by a 14-year-old student who attended Pennbrook Middle School in North Wales while Hurst was vice principal there. In amended court papers filed late last week, law enforcement officials said a second student had come forward with similar accusations.

Drug Dispute Leads to Deaths of Donysha Stovall, Daughter Clarisma Torrey & Stepson Shaquille Davis

It is a travesty that armed thugs would take the lives of a mother and her children, no matter what the circumstances. When will the gun violence end in inner cities across the United States? According to the Chicago Sun Times, three men suspected in the murders of Donysha Stovall, her nine year old daughter, Clarisma Torrey, stepson Shaquille Davis and injuring her four year old son, Nathaniel, have been arrested. Why? Police said a dispute over drugs led to the murders.

Stovall and the children were shot at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Harvey spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado said. Investigators think the victims knew the shooters, she said. Clarisma was shot in the face, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Stovall was shot in the chest, and her bloody body was slumped on a sofa, neighbors said. Shaquille had recently been released from juvenile detention after he stabbed a stepbrother, relatives said.

Sources said the murders were thought to be cocaine-related. Detectives recovered drugs from the home, and Stovall’s boyfriend, who lives there, could face drug charges, Harvey Police Chief Denard Eaves said. The boyfriend, who was arrested Sunday night, remained in custody Monday night. Source

It is a shame that the children were caught in this crossfire. When will people learn that drugs are dangerous and on so many levels. I could never even entertain the thought of putting my children in harm's way. This is a tragedy that could have been avoided. If these allegations are true, then this woman knew she was putting her children in harm's way and did nothing about it. No use in her family coming out and extolling her virtues. If her boyfriend was mixed up in drugs she should have loved herself and her children far more than to put them in the middle of a maelstrom. Still, there is no justification for this unspeakable act of violence against these kids. We all know that drug dealers are some of the most ruthless people around and they will wipe out a whole family at the drop of a hat.

Black GOP Congressional Candidate Stephen Broden Calls for "Violent Overthrow of Current Government" if GOP Loses Elections

I hope voters will think long and hard before siding with either party at the polls next month. Personally, I have crossed party lines to support candidates who best personify the issues important to me but one has to ask out loud, what in the world was Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden thinking when he called for a violent overthrow of the government if the GOP didn't prevail in the upcoming elections? Isn't that just giving a match to a person on the fringe who would love nothing more than to harm our elected leaders and possibly the president? It should be noted that Broden is challenging Democratic incumbent Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Dallas' 30th Congressional district.

"If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary," Broden said, adding the nation was founded on a violent revolt against Britain's King George III. Watson asked if violence would be in option in 2010, under the current government. "The option is on the table. I don't think that we should remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms," Broden said, without elaborating. "However, it is not the first option." Steven Nicholson, a suburban Detroit resident, charged with first-degree murder, other charges, in the deaths of his two small children, Ella Stafford & Jonathon Sanderlin.

Steven Nicholson, a suburban Detroit father, has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of his two small children - Ella Stafford, 15 months old & Jonathon Sanderlin, 13 months old. According to the Detroit Free Press, Nicholson called 911 to report the drowning of his children, whose bodies were found in his apartment Tuesday. He has also been charged with murder committed during another felony and child abuse, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon.

Ella's mother, Tayler Stafford, told the Free Press on Wednesday that the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office told her that the children were scalded and drowned. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday they had received a warrant request from Allen Park in connection with the deaths of the toddlers. Police said Nicholson called 911 about 2:16 a.m. Tuesday, reporting the children had drowned in the bathtub. Source: Free Press

This is a real tragedy. These precious babies did not deserve this. I would love to know why both mothers aren't in the lives of the children. There have been some news floating around stating he had a drinking problem. No matter how you look at this situation, there is no way his claim of being asleep will stick, unless someone else came into the apartment and killed the babies by drowning.

FBI Launches Probe After Suspicious Envelope Containing White Powder, Paper with Swastikas Sent to Rep. Raul Grijalva's Arizona Office

The freaks on the fringe are coming out in full force now that we are facing elections in November. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), said an envelope was delivered to his office containing white powder, which has been determined to be toxic and is now being tested by the FBI. The envelope also contained two pieces of paper with swastikas, according to KVOA.

"It's really distressing. You know, I understand politics, I understand what's going on out there. But for people to feel that their way of expression is to hurt other people physically and endanger other people physically is a really sad commentary on how we're doing politics right now," Grijalva said. Clarence Thomas' Ex-Girlfriend Lillian McEwen Says He was "Obsessed with Porn" Bolsters Anita Hill's Sexual Harassment Claims

The soap opera with the lone black U.S. Supreme Court justice on the bench, Clarence Thomas, continues. This time, the Washington Post has interviewed his former colleague and ex-girlfriend Lillian McEwen, who said he was "obsessed with porn" as well as the bodies of his female coworkers, bolstering law professor Anita Hill's claims that he sexually harassed her decades ago at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where they both worked. The reality is, Virgina Thomas opened up a can of worms when she left that voice message for Anita Hill.

"He was always actively watching the women he worked with to see if they could be potential partners," Lillian McEwen, a former assistant U.S. attorney and one-time girlfriend of Thomas' told the newspaper. "It was a hobby of his." McEwen, now 65, remained silent for the past 20 years on Thomas' behavior to protect her career and image, she said.

The phone call Thomas's wife, Virginia, made to Hill Saturday, however, loosened McEwen's lips. "I have nothing to be afraid of," McEwen, who is currently shopping her memoir, said. In addition to being a prosecutor, McEwen was a law professor and judge. "I have no hostility toward him," she said. "It is just that he has manufactured a different reality over time. During his confirmation hearing, Thomas who was nominated to replace the U.S.'s first black Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall, called Hill's testimony a "high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. Senate rather than hung from a tree." Seems to me like his wife pulled out a hatchet and started lynching Anita Hill all over again by contacting her and stirring up a hornet's nest. Let's throw President Obama in the mix as well, since the organization she founded views him as a tyrant. Clarence Thomas pales in comparison to the respect and authority Thurgood Marshall commanded. He has come across as one who wants nothing to do with blacks and his past life. He seems to have forgotten that affirmative action helped him to get into the best schools to get his education.

Jennifer Leigh Jennings Charged with Hate Crime Against Two Muslim Women

Jennifer Leigh Jennings, a Burien, Wash., resident will be charged by King County prosecutors with a hate crime after she allegedly kicked one Muslim woman, slammed a car door on another and shouted racial epithets at both women, last Saturday at a gas station in Tukwila, according to the Seattle Times.

Shortly before 6 p.m. that day, the two Muslim women stopped for gas at the Arco AM PM gas station and minimart at 15252 Tukwila International Boulevard. The pump didn't appear to be working. That's when another woman — who gave her name to police as Jennifer Adams but whom prosecutors identify as 37-year-old Jennifer Leigh Jennings — said to them: "Suicide bomber" and "Hey you don't know how to pump go back to your country," according to charging papers. As one of the Muslim women leaned in her car, Jennings slammed the door on the woman's legs and called her a suicide bomber again, prosecutors say. Jennings then kicked the woman and pushed the other woman, prosecutors say.

One of the women called Tukwila Police, who arrested Jennings. As she was being booked at the holding facility, Jennings continued to be upset, remarking to one officer about another officer who had a dark complexion: "You're only doing this because he's the same race and religion as those two ladies," charging papers say. The two Muslim women are both U.S. citizens. Source

The current climate in this country is scary and many people on the fringe are now embolden to spew racial epithets at the drop of a hat. Thanks to the those conservative hatemongers, such as Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Juan Williams, Sean Hannity, Mike Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and others. Not every Muslim is a terrorist and not every white conservative is a racist. Jennings is being charged with two felony counts of malicious harassment.

Durrell Mickens Charged with First-Degree Murder in Shooting Death of Stepfather, Dedrick Campbell, Over Argument About a Gun

SHAME: Durrell J. Mickens, 17, fatally shot his stepfather, Dedrick Campbell, 45, because he wanted a stainless steel revolver back that his mother and Campbell had taken away on Sept. 30th. Mickens has been charged with first-degree murder and burglary and was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Wednesday, according to the Commercial Appeal. He is being held without bond.

The court document offers this description of events:

Mickens’ mother, Daphanie Mickens, and Campbell took a Smith & Wesson revolver from the 17-year-old about 7 a.m. at their home at 6780 Shoreline Circle.

Mickens left about 11 a.m., returned about 1 p.m. and demanded that Campbell return the gun. When the stepfather refused, Mickens shot him in the leg with a semiautomatic handgun. Campbell was pronounced dead about 2:45 p.m. at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.

His mother witnessed the shooting and then heard her son’s voice and a second shot after she ran inside to call 911. The Smith & Wesson had been reported stolen Sept. 9 in a burglary from a vehicle in a garage. Source

I recall when I was growing up, whatever my parents said, I obeyed, whether or not I agreed. This is a disgrace and this young man had no business fatally shooting his stepfather because they wouldn't allow him to have his way. The parents were doing the right thing, by putting their feet down, but no, he just couldn't obey them. Lock him up and throw away the key.

Justin Pearson, 15, Tells Memphis School Board He & Many Students Didn't Have Textbooks for 11 Weeks, Principal to be Reprimanded

Justin Pearson, an African American student at Mitchell High School in Memphis, should be applauded for alerting the school board that he and many other students were without a government textbook for the first 11 weeks of school. According to the Commercial Appeal, Pearson told the school board that he and hundreds of his peers at Mitchell High still had few textbooks. What's equally deplorable is the fact that district officials confirmed that most of the missing books were found in school storage. Where's the oversight? Who dropped the ball? Mitchell principal, Howard Smith, will reportedly receive a letter of reprimand for failing to follow district directives. Sorry, he should be fired for his negligence.

Every principal across the district has been asked to prove that books have been distributed or are on order; they have until the end of the week to provide the documentation.

On Tuesday, a handwritten note on a whiteboard in an English classroom at Mitchell summed up one teacher's sentiments: "Congratulations! Mr. Smith has ordered you to take your Writers Choice book home."

But even that was mysterious, Pearson said, "because until Tuesday, we were using a literature book in class. It was the wrong book."

Pearson, 15, told the school board that he wanted "the opportunity to go to the Air Force Academy. "I am not a failure. I will not allow anyone to say I cannot succeed," he said, asking how he could be expected to do his work without books. "I don't understand it all," he said Wednesday. "But if I had not spoken, we would still not have textbooks. That's the scary part." Source: Commercial Appeal

How can these students be expected to succeed if they aren't given the proper tools to learn? I have to wonder out loud, how many predominantly white schools in Memphis have had this problem? If Justin Pearson didn't speak up, then this would have gone on for a few more weeks. To put it simply, this is a disgrace.

White Warner Robins City Council Member, John Williams, Tells Black Counterpart, Daron Lee, He Should be Working "Cotton Field"

Warner Robins, Ga., city council members John Williams, who is white, and Daron Lee, who is black, got into a heated argument during a city council meeting that was caught on tape. Williams told Lee that he "should be working in a cotton field." What? The NAACP has gotten involved in this mess and, Larry Holmes, president of the Houston county chapter told CNN,“They need to learn to respect each other, and they need to stop all the name calling.”

The controversial “cotton field” exchange happened at the meeting at the Warner Robins City Council earlier in October, said CNN affiliate WMAZ-TV in Macon. During the exchange, Lee said he was tired of being interrupted and was upset about how he was treated at an earlier meeting.

“I was disrespected last Monday. I’m getting about tired of you all, talking to me any kind of way. I’m not working in a cotton field,” Lee said. Williams paused for a second and then replied, “You should be.” Lee then walked out of the meeting but later returned, the TV station reported. Source

Veteran Journalist Juan Williams Fired by NPR Over Incendiary Comments About Muslims & Terrorism

Fox News Channel resident Uncle Tom, Juan Williams, was fired by NPR. Gee, I wonder why? He made incendiary comments about Muslims and terrorism on "The O'Reilly Factor" Monday on Fox News Channel.NPR issued a statement saying that Williams's remarks, including that he gets "worried" and "nervous" when he sees people dressed in Muslim-style clothing on airplanes, "were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR," according to the Washington Post.

Williams, 56, made the remarks Monday after the show's host, Bill O'Reilly, asked him whether he thought the United States was facing a "Muslim dilemma." "The cold truth is that in the world today, jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet," O'Reilly said. Williams, who is African American and writes and speaks frequently on race, told O'Reilly that he agreed with his assessment.

"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country," he said. "But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they're identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous." Williams then brought up a statement made in a New York courtroom this month by Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistani American who pleaded guilty to trying to detonate a bomb in Times Square and was sentenced to life in prison. Er, here's my question, why was Juan Williams the scapegoat? Fox News, true to form, hasn't repudiated Bill O'Reilly's ridiculous and equally inflammatory statements. Oh wait, how could I forget. Fox News thrives on extremism and radical views, as evidenced from on-air personalities such as Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Steve Doocy, to name a few. Juan Williams, better than any one of Fox News, should know what it means to be discriminated against because of the color of one's skin.

Boston College Law School 3rd Year Student Facing Dismal Job Prospects Tells Dean to "Keep Degree, Give Tuition Back"

A third year law student at Boston College Law School, who is facing dismal job prospects and massive student loan debt, has offered the school a deal of sorts: "keep the degree and give me back my tuition." The open letter was posted on the online student-run newspaper, EagleiOnline. Here's an excerpt from the letter:

Unfortunately, the occasion for me writing to you is not a happy one. As a 3L, my peers and I find ourselves in the midst of one of the worst job markets in the history of our profession. A few of us have been able to find employment, but the overwhelming majority of us are desperately looking, and unable to find anything. We are discouraged, scared, and in many cases, feeling rather hopeless about our chances of ever getting to practice law.

To compound our difficulties, many of us are in an enormous amount of debt from our legal studies. Soon after our graduation, we will be asked to make very large monthly payments towards this debt, regardless of whether we’ve been able to find employment or not. It is a debt which, despite being the size of a mortgage, gives us no tangible asset which we could try to sell or turn in to the bank. We are not even able to seek the protection of bankruptcy from this debt.

I write to you from a more desperate place than most: my wife is pregnant with our first child. She is due in April. With fatherhood impending, I go to bed every night terrified of the thought of trying to provide for my child AND paying off my J.D, and resentful at the thought that I was convinced to go to law school by empty promises of a fulfilling and remunerative career. And although my situation puts the enormity of the problem into sharp focus, there are a lot of us facing similar financial disasters. In all of this, we have had very little help from career services, who all seem to be as confounded as we are by this job market. Kate Devlin Joyce has been an amazing and helpful ally; everyone else in that office has shrugged their shoulders at us and asked if we have tried using Linkedin.

I’d like to propose a solution to this problem: I am willing to leave law school, without a degree, at the end of this semester. In return, I would like a full refund of the tuition I’ve paid over the last two and a half years.

I know many face levels of desperation akin to the Great Depression, but I believe this will pass over time and we can't throw in the towel and give up. I agree that times are tough and we are all feeling the pinch, but to walking away from years of hard work and studying in school isn't the right thing to do.

A homeowner in Sikeston, MO, has come under fire for his Halloween decoration. He decorated his backyard with a black man hanging from a noose and a Ku Klux Klan figure, according to KAIT8. It should be noted that the decorations are visible from Interstate 55. He said no one had called and asked him to take it down and people have told him it's nice to see a "little white pride" and that the display speaks for itself.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter came to the man's house and asked him to remove the decorations. Walter says they got calls regarding the display and contacted the county prosecutor to see if it was within their right to remove it as it could cause problems. The prosecutor encouraged the sheriff to discuss it with the homeowner and ask him to take it down. The man did remove the decorations, but indicated to the sheriff's department he would call his lawyer about replacing the decorations. Source

Wow, so are we going back to the darkest period in America's history? How insensitive and racist. Then conservative politicians who fan the flames of racism and appeal to the fringe elements, specifically the Republican Party and its offshoots, wonder why they are called bigots. GA Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Roy Barnes Defends Use of Altered News Video to Attack Opponent Nathan Deal

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Roy Barnes is under fire for his latest commercial in which a fabricated news video was used to attack his opponent, Republican Nathan Deal. This is a really nasty ad that should have found its way on our television screens. There are other ways in which Roy Barnes could hit Nathan Deal than to resort to unscrupulous methods. The intent of the commercial was to create Deal in a bad light, but using fake news coverage is just downright wrong.

Barnes was unapologetic when confronted during a campaign stop in downtown Athens, Ga. Carla Oglesby, Accused of Stealing $300K from Illinois Taxpayers, Files for Unemployment Benefits Six Days After Arrest

SHAME: Carla Oglesby, who faces felony public corruption charges, filed a claim with the Illinois Department of Employment Security on October 10, six days after she was arrested, even though she allegedly stole $300,000 from taxpayers, according to the Chicago Sun Times. She previously served as Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's deputy chief of staff.

The 41-year-old lost her job October 5 after details emerged of how she allegedly handed no-work contracts to businesses, including her own PR company.

The so-called “24-9’’ contracts fell just below the $25,000 threshold that would require approval by county commissioners.

Cook County officials were shocked to receive notice of Oglesby’s claim Tuesday and now have an opportunity to dispute her benefits claim.

An application for unemployment benefits may be denied if the job was lost through misconduct, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Source

Reports: Singer Beyonce & Husband Jay-Z Expecting First Child

ABC News is reporting that Beyonce Knowles and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child, according to US Weekly magazine.

The 29-year-old Beyonce was surprised to learn she is in her first trimester of the pregnancy. She had wanted to finish another album but was overjoyed, the U.S. magazine said.

One of the music world's most influential and wealthy couples, Beyonce and Jay-Z, 40, whose real name is Shawn Carter, were married in a secretive ceremony in New York in 2008.

The rapper is set to release a memoir in November called "Decoded," while Beyonce earlier this year completed a world tour promoting her 2008 hit studio album, "I am...Sasha Fierce." Source: ABC News

Nathan Goncalves Defends Distributing "White & Proud," Fliers on the Campus of Clark College, Wearing Uniform with Swastika Emblems

More racist rhetoric. Nathan Goncalves, a student at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., wearing a blue uniform with swastika emblems, defended distributing "white and proud" fliers on campus.

Try not to snicker, but he told a meeting at the college the National Socialist Movement is not about hatred, it's about love, according to Seattle Pi local.

The Columbian reports about 250 students, faculty and staff attended the Monday night meeting to discuss the fliers that were distributed Oct. 5. One instructor, Dian Ulner, said they heightened fears.

Blacks talked about black pride during the 1960s and 1970s, but that was because we had been denigrated and discriminated against for so long. It certainly doesn't have the same connotations of "white and proud," which is meant to say the white race is the superior one, at least in the eyes of these white supremacists.

Clarence Thomas' Wife Virginia Demands Apology from Anita Hill for Sexual Harassment Accusations

I was never a fan of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for a number of reasons, notwithstanding his coldness towards the black community and his buffoonish persona. I was taken aback at the effrontery of his Tea Party activist wife, Virginia Thomas, when she reportedly called Anita Hill, who accused her husband of sexual harassment decades ago, for an apology. Say what? Is she crazy? Why should Anita Hill apologize? What if her accusations were true? Shouldn't Clarence Thomas apologize to Ms. Hill? You will recall the circus the accusations caused at Thomas' confirmation hearings in the Senate in 1991.

"I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband," the wife of Clarence Thomas said in the Saturday morning voice mail, first reported by ABC News. "So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. Okay have a good day." Source: NY Daily News

Virginia Thomas thinks she is on a roll. She started an organization to shed light on President Obama's supposed mishandling of the issues facing this country. She even called him a tyrant. But isn't it a little strange and unethical for the wife of a sitting Supreme Court justice to be such a visible force in Washington politics? It is a frightening thought that a woman so radical as Virginia Thomas is married to a man who can effect change on our lives through the US Supreme Court. I could never understand why Anita Hill followed Clarence Thomas to other positions when she said he was sexually harassing her. Maybe she just wanted to build up her resume, but that's not a good enough reason, in my opinion to knowingly work with someone who harasses you repeatedly. Still, that doesn't mean that she made up the allegations, one in which Thomas allegedly called his penis, "long dong silver" and pubic hair on a can of soda. We certainly don't need to revisit that hot mess that unfolded during his confirmation hearings.

I hate to dredge this affair up again, but Ginnie Thomas is wrong to contact this woman. Let it go. Stop holding a grudge. Obviously Ms. Hill has moved on and is doing just fine at Brandeis University as a law professor, who did the right thing by turning over this harassing voice mail message to the FBI. Ginnie Thomas was not with her husband when he was allegedly engaging in crude behavior. She presumed to know the truth and has a lot of nerve to do so. I don't blame Anita Hill to go public with this. I echo her sentiments, Mrs. Thomas' actions are offensive. Thomas' action isn't what I would call extending an olive branch. She's just as crazy as her husband. Well, as they say, birds of a feather flock together. This latest dust-up will only lead to embarrassment for Clarence Thomas, not Anita Hill.

Jill Quigg, "Gone Baby Gone" Actress, Arrested for Larceny, Blames Black Man

SHAME: Jill Quigg, actress in the 2007 film "Gone Baby Gone," is facing charges after she and another man allegedly broke into a neighbor's apartment in Quincy, Mass., and she had the nerve to blame it on a black man, police said.

Jill Quigg, 35, of Quincy, who played the role of Dottie in the movie directed by Ben Affleck, was arrested Friday after police were called about a break-in at a Quincy apartment, according to police. Quincy Lt. Jack Sullivan said Quigg and Georgios Keskinidis, 28, of Lynn, were stopped near the apartment and told police that a black man had broken into it and was running off with a 32-inch flat screen television and a new computer printer.

Sullivan said the pair told police they chased the man as he dropped the items and got into a getaway vehicle. The pair also told police they kept the items in Quigg’s apartment. However, Sullivan said witnesses at the scene identified Quigg and Keskinidis as the ones leaving the apartment. Quigg and Keskinidis, pleaded not guilty Monday in Quincy District Court to breaking and entering during the day, larceny of more than $250 and wanton destruction of property worth more than $250. Okay, so she isn't raking in tons of money, but breaking into your neighbor's home or any other person's home for that matter is just low. Why are some criminals, mainly women, always blaming a black man for the crimes they commit? Wrong. Just wrong.

Television Evangelist Robert H. Schuller's Crystal Cathedral Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

I blogged about television evangelist Robert H. Schuller's church, Crystal Cathedral, last year, when news of a squabble between he and his son, Rev. Robert A. Schuller, caused a rift in the church, but I didn't realize it would have led to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by a church. According to the Seattle Times, the cathedral owes about $7.5 million to unsecured creditors and the bankruptcy filing seeks court protection from its creditors. Er, what about paying your dues and not being a slave to the lender? Isn't that clearly stated in the Bible and to display temperance in all that one does? Classic case of do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I.

The church lost members in the wake of a family feud after Schuller retired. His son, the Rev. Robert A. Schuller, succeeded his father, but stepped down in 2008 after disagreements. His sister is now the church's leader.

In a statement issued Monday, Senior Pastor Sheila Schuller Coleman said the bankruptcy filing was necessary because a "small number of creditors chose to file lawsuits and obtained writ of attachment." She said the cathedral also had no choice because a committee of creditors decided not to extend a moratorium to allow continued talks about a payment plan.

The cathedral, which has been a landmark and a tourist attraction with its glistening glass tower, is now faced with $55 million in debt because of the economy and dwindling contributions. The church's budget woes have forced it to downsize its staff, cancel "Hour of Power" programming in certain markets, and even send home choir and orchestra members. Former NFL Linebacker Junior Seau Drives Escalade Off Cliff Hours After Arrest on Suspicion of Domestic Violence

SHOCK: Former NFL linebacker Junior Seau has been hospitalized after he drove his Cadillac Escalade off a cliff in Carlsbad, Ca., Monday, just hours after being arrested and charged with felony spousal assault, according to KGTV. His injuries are minor and he is expected to survive.

Seau was arrested around midnight Sunday for the incident, which allegedly occurred against his live-in girlfriend.

After he was released from custody, Seau drove his 2005 Cadillac Escalade off a cliff in Carlsbad, Carlsbad police told 10News.

Additionally, a witness called 10News around 9:00 a.m. to report that she saw Seau drive a car off a cliff directly in front of her near Carlsbad Boulevard and Solamar Drive. Seau was pulled out of the vehicle with only cuts and bruises and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, police said.

It is not clear what caused Seau to drive off the cliff. More details to follow......

Sian James, Accused of Attempted Rape of Ex-Girlfriend, Arrested in Death of Baltimore Police Officer Brian Stevenson

Sian James, 25, has been arrested in the death of off-duty Baltimore police officer Brian Stevenson, Saturday night at a local bar, over a parking space. James, who is of Jamaican descent, is accused of throwing the concrete rock that fatally injured the officer. He is being held without bond Monday morning after a brief hearing at Central Booking, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Sian James, dressed in a bright yellow jumpsuit with his hands shackled in front of him, did not speak at the hearing. A public defender asked Associate District Judge Charles A. Chiapparelli to set bail, noting that he was steadily employed at an area Jiffy Lube and has been in the area for the past five years.

James has no prior convictions, though he was out on $150,000 bond after being indicted in July on charges that he attempted to rape his ex-girlfriend after storming into her apartment.

James is accused of throwing a "fist-sized" piece of concrete that struck Stevenson on the left side of the head, causing "massive" injuries. Police say the rock was thrown after an argument over a parking space in a private lot in the 2800 block of Hudson St. on Saturday night, the eve of the 18-year police veteran's 38th birthday.

What a senseless loss of life of Officer Stevenson. Over a parking space? This is a disgrace and I pray, if Sian James is found guilty of his murder, he will rot in jail for the rest of his life. I find his Jamaican heritage irrelevant in this sad chain of events. It doesn't matter what his background is, he's still allegedly a cop killer.

Two Female Employees Shot & Killed at Post Office in Henning, TN

BREAKING: Two people were shot and killed this Monday morning at a post office in Henning, TN. According to WLOX, sources with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said two female employees were killed in an incident that was reported around 9:00 a.m. Monday.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are unclear, and information about a possible suspect is not yet available.

Pace University Junior Danroy Henry Jr. Shot & Killed by Police Outside Upstate NY Bar After Brawl

Pace University student Danroy Henry Jr. was shot & killed by police early Sunday outside Finnegan's Grill in Thornwood, NY, after a brawl. His father, Danroy Henry Sr. has told reporters that an "impartial investigation" will be launched in the death of his son, according to the Boston Herald. He said there are conflicting reports of what happened outside a New York bar.

Henry, a junior at Pace University's suburban Westchester County campus, played wide receiver and defensive back for the school's football team. According to the Boston Herald, police were called to the bar at around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday after an "unruly" crowd had gathered outside.

Police said the officer knocked on the window, but the car, driven by Danroy Henry Jr., began moving. When a Pleasantville police officer tried to stop it, Henry accelerated and struck him, police said. With that officer on the vehicle’s hood, a second officer, who stepped in and tried to pull that officer to safety, was also struck, police said.

The Pleasantville officer, still clinging to the hood of the car, then shot and killed Henry, police said. A passenger in Henry’s car was also shot, but survived the minor injury, police said. Henry was a 2007 graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton. He spent his freshman year at Iona College, then transferred to Pace in 2009. He was a junior studying business management and he played wide receiver and defensive back for the Pace football team. Source: Boston Herald

It is a shame that a promising life has been taken away. I pray the police will launch a thorough investigation and if the officers acted hastily and unjustly, that they will face justice. If this young man had nothing to hide, then if the cops told him to turn down his window, he should not have driven off. We will have to wait until the dust settles to get the truth about what happened to Danroy Henry Jr. early Sunday morning.

New CNN Black in America Documentary, "Almighty Debt" Explores Prosperity Gospel, Burden of Debt

We will be interviewing CNN's Soledad O'Brien ahead of the airing of her latest special, "Almighty Debt: A Black in America Special," in which she looks at how some blacks are fighting debt from the pulpit, premiering at 9 p.m. ET on October 21.

African-Americans go to religious services and pray daily more often than the general American population, studies show. And while those rates seem to be holding steady, the places of worship and the size of the groups are changing, says one expert. Many people continue to attend mega churches, but the small communal gathering is rebounding in popularity, Teresa L. Fry Brown said.

“There is an increase now in house churches,” said Fry Brown, the director of black church studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. “They kind of faded for about 20 years. But now more people are having small gatherings. And they may not even call it church - like Bible studies in homes.”  There are a couple of reasons for the change, she said. Some churchgoers find the bigger houses of worship too restrictive or simply don’t trust the leadership of the church. She said people are meeting more often in club houses, homes and restaurants. And the gatherings aren’t always sponsored through a church.

In 2009, the Pew Research Center reported that 53 percent of African-Americans attended church regularly, compared with 39 percent of all Americans. Fry Brown, who is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal church, said those numbers seem to be “holding,” even as the role of the black church is changing.

For me, the prosperity gospel touted by megachurch pastors Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland, Frederick Price, embattled Eddie L. Long, mired in a gay sex scandal, Paula White and others, is flawed and fools congregants into thinking just tithing and sowing a seed will produce a luxury car such as a Bentley and untold riches. That's just not so. The Bible never said we were all destined to be rich. There will always be rich, poor and the people in between. I learned the hard way that too much debt will lead to a whole host of problems. For me, if I can't pay cash for a new car, then I won't buy it. I'll continue to drive my car until it dies on me. Then I will get a late-model used car. We live in an "upgrade society" and not a "replace society." We want to have the latest flat-screen television, even though our old TV works just fine. We want to have the latest technology when, from a budget standpoint, it's not affordable. Then, we will always be mired in debt if we don't make better financial choices. Stop living on your credit cards. Live on what you earn, after you have taken out your savings. It's pretty basic.
