Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church Facing Another Lawsuit as Aretonnette Ingram Seeks $78 Million After Imprisonment for Making Threats

Aretonnette Ingram suing Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church for $1 million for each of the 78 days she was imprisoned for allegedly making "terroristic threats."

Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church is in the news again. Aretonnette Ingram is suing DeKalb County and the megachurch for $78 million, $1 million for every day she claims she was wrongly jailed, according to WSB-TV. She reportedly said she was arrested May 2008 for making terroristic threats after a youth counselor at the church relayed false statements to the police about a telephone conversation the two had. This lawsuit may be a little on the crazy side, but it seems that this church is having some serious issues.
Ingram was accused of threatening to kill herself and her children and threatening to blow up Congressman Hank Johnson's office, the station reports. Ingram says she called the church to get help with kids in her neighborhood, and that the counelsor she talked to was not helpful. Ingram says she got frustrated. She says she told the woman she had just arrived at Johnson's Lithonia office to deal with a power bill, and hung up.

Ingram told WSB-TV that DeKalb County police officers, including former Deputy Chief Donald Frank, arrived to Johnson’s office and confronted her about the alleged statements. Her lawsuit alleges that Frank promised she would end up in jail, and that later in the day, officers arrested her.“I sat in jail for 78 days and I literally slipped through the cracks,” said Ingram. Court records show a grand jury later declined to indict Ingram and the case was dismissed. Source: WSB-TV
Newbirth Missionary Baptist church has a really serious public relations problem. Let me seg-way into the latest news on the gay sexual coercion allegations leveled by four young men -- Jamal Parris, Spencer LeGrande, Maurice Robinson & Anthony Flagg, against Bishop Eddie L. Long. The case is now heading for mediation. Seems to me that Bishop Long is shying away from throwing those "rocks" like David as he so vehemently stated during his first sermon after the scandal broke. In a round-about way, Long is coming across ass one who is guilty of the allegations brought against him.
