Indiana store owner, Gary Dewester, under fire for selling soaps with derogatory slogans such as "Darkie" & "Kolored Kids."
It seems a little hypocritical that Noblesville, IN, General Store owner Gary Dewester, is under fire for his "Kolored Kids" soaps, but we have embraced Aunt Jemima pancake syrup, mixes and frozen pancakes and waffles. Mr. Dewester was threatened with eviction if he didn't pull the items from the shelves. The controversy over soap with racist labels being sold at a Noblesville store continues. In addition to those who are offended by the store selling these items, there is also growing support for the vendor who has been ordered to take the soaps off the shelves or face eviction. We live in a society in which many racists still live and breathe, therefore, at times it's hard to separate fact from fiction. If it's an antique store, then, you would expect to find relics from the past, right?
Are they just a light-hearted look at history or not? General Store owner Gary Dewester remains steadfast neither the soaps nor himself, are in any way racist. Source: Fox 59
