German parliament member, Wolfgang Neskovic, says President Obama "behaves like OldTestament God who kills people as he sees fit."
I'll be the first to admit, I'm a little thin-skinned over some of the criticism of President Barack Obama, specifically those racially-tinged criticisms. Don't get me wrong. So, what's got me up in arms about some folks picking on President Obama? A recent article in Germany's
Der Spiegel about a German national being killed by a drone in Pakistan and the reaction Wolfgang Neskovic, a member of parliament for the far-left Left Party, about the situation. He basically said "Barack Obama is not God, able to freely decide about life and death," he says. "Nevertheless he behaves like an Old Testament God who kills people as he sees fit with fire and brimstone." What?
"Such attacks are happening outside the law," says Neskovic. "International law does not provide any legal basis for the killing of suspected terrorists outside of a combat situation. … No intelligence service has the license to kill."
According to Neskovic, if other countries adopted such a strategy, the entire world would become a war zone, with "American drones over the Brandenburg Gate (in Berlin) and North Korean drones over Washington." Neskovic reserves his strongest criticism for the American president, who he sees as being ultimately responsible for the drone attacks. Source: Der Spiegel
I understand the outrage over the drones, but one has to understand that we have to do everything in our power to root out al-Qaeda and other insurgents, hellbent on inflicting harm on innocent Americans in the name of "Allah."I must also interject that it's ironic that the Germans could be so critical of President Obama to the extent he is being called the "Old Testament God." Didn't they go through a period in their history that their leaders thought they had Europe in their hands? I am specifically referring to the Nazis and their leader Adolf Hitler, who thought he was akin to God.
