Indian Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Under Fire for Saying Gay Sex "a Disease Commonly Found in the West"

Indian health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad sparks outrage after labeling gay sex "a disease found in the West" and saying "homosexuality is unnatural."

Indian health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has sparked outrage after labeling gay sex a "disease" most commonly found in the West. According to the U.K. Telegraph, he made the comments while speaking at a HIV/AIDS conference in New Delhi.

“Even though it (homosexuality) is unnatural, it exists in our country and is now fast spreading, making it tough to detect its spread,” Mr Azad told the conference in New Delhi, which was also attended by the Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, head of the ruling Congress Party, senior cabinet members and MPs. “With relationships changing, men are having sex with men now. Though it is easy to find women sex workers and educate them on sex, it is a challenge to find them (gay men)” he added. Source: Telegraph
His comments are a shock to people outside his country, but unfortunately, his views are widely held in his socially conservative country. I suspect that many in the West Indies also share a similar viewpoint and no, that doesn't make it right.
