Memphis City Schools Start Date Delayed Indefinitely Until City Council Deposits $55M in School District's Account

Memphis City schools will not open on August 8, 2011, as previously planned. Why? It won't start until the City Council deposits $55 million in the district's account. That's the amount the city budgeted for schools from tax revenue. According to the Commercial Appeal, the school board voted 8-1 to delay the start of the school year indefinitely.
