Ga. State Court Judge James Chafin refuses to allow Muslim man, Troy Montgomery, from appearing in court with headcovering, kufi, says it's a matter of decorum.
Troy "Tariq" Montgomery, 46, said he is not being allowed to wear his Muslim headcovering, kufi, in a courtroom and that violates his Constitutional rights. According to the
Atlanta Journal Constitution, he went to court Thursday to defend a speeding charge and, for the third time, a Henry County State Court Judge James Chafin refused to allow him to enter the courtroom, his attorney said. Okay, are nuns allowed to wear their habits if they have to appear in court? Or are priests allowed to wear their garments in court? Better yet, what if a Jewish male appeared in his courtroom with a yarmulke on his head? Isn't this a ridiculous distraction from what work Judge Chafin has to do? The judge said this isn't about religion but decorum in the courtroom. Right. Over a speeding ticket?
