Off-Duty Police Officer Patrick Johnson Killed After Drunk Driver Theary Chan Hits His Motorcycle

When will people learn that driving under the influence is a recipe for disaster and loss of life? Off-duty Lowell police officer Patrick Johnson, 31, was killed by an alleged drunk driver, Theary Chan. According to WCVB-TV, Officer Patrick Johnson was riding his motorcycle early Saturday morning at the intersection of Princeton Boulevard and Foster Street when he was hit.
His wife Lindsey had been following behind him at the time of the accident and witnessed the crash. Police said driver of the car, Theary Chan, 26, of Lowell, crashed into Johnson. Police said Chan was cited on scene and charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, open container violation and failure to stop at a stop sign. Johnson was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Source
This is a real tragedy that could have been avoided. Johnson, who had been with the Lowell Police Department since 2004,  was a decorated officer. He also leaves behind two small children, an infant daughter and a three-year-old son. Chan will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.
