Tennessee Pastor Bob Old Plans to Burn Quran on 911 in Support of Rev. Terry Jones

Pastor Terry Jones has company, in his Burn-a-Quran day on September 11. Rev. Bob Old of Springfield, Tenn., doesn't care what other pastors and world leaders think, including President Barack Obama. According to the Tennessean, he says Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove World Center Outreach in Gainesville, Fla., is doing the right thing by burning the Quran. So he's going to do likewise.
Old plans to set fire to a Quran on Saturday at his home and then post a video of the burning book online. And if he had his way, there would be no Muslims in America.

"If they want to have their religion, they can have it somewhere else," said Old, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Joelton and Academy Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin, which merged with another church. He no longer has a congregation and instead runs an evangelical ministry called Disciples of Christ.....

He believes America was founded as a Christian nation, and freedom of religion does not apply to Muslims or other non-Christians.

"I believe that other religions are a threat to our faith and our beliefs," he said. "People may say that I am crazy, but I am not." Source
Another wingnut has signed onto a disturbing trend. What's equally disturbing is that, in the case of Rev. Jones, his followers actually believe his ridiculous and hateful racist rhetoric. This is a prime reason why we need a separation of church and state. We have too many white Christian male leaders trying to set the tone for America through their myopic lens. What if every black in this country were to boycott Christianity because of the scourge of racism perpetrated against us during America's darkest period in history when the Ku Klux Klan had a foothold on the very fabric of our lives in the South?

UPDATE#1: Bob Old and Rev. Danny Allen both burned Qurans Saturday, despite the widespread outrage their actions sparked. Both men said their actions had nothing to do with whether or not a mosque was built near Ground Zero. Sorry, this was done out of pure hatred. What is this going to solve? Nothing. According to WSMV-TV, Old said, "It's about faith, it's about love, but you have to have the right book behind you. This is a book of hate, not a book of love," said Old while holding up a Quran. Both men claimed they burned the books to defend the United States Constitution and the American people. Why am I not surprised that two white men from the Deep South did this?
