Two Suspects in Police Custody in the Baseball Bat Attack on Natasha McShane, Stacy Jurich in Chicago

Two people in police custody in the baseball bat attack on Natasha McShane and Stacy Jurich as they walked to Bucktown section of Chicago.

 Two people, a man and a woman, are in police custody in connection to the savage attack on Natasha McShane, 23, and Stacy Jurich, 24, with a baseball bat last Friday morning as they walked in the 1800-block of North Damen Avenue in the Bucktown section of Chicago.

As of Tuesday morning, Natasha McShane remains in critical condition, while Jurich was upgraded to fair condition, according to ABC 7 News.  Police said the suspects stole the women's purses. The baseball bat reportedly used in the attack has been recovered, according to media reports. Police used records from the women's stolen cell phones and credit cards to track down their attackers, the Chicago Sun-Times said.

McShane, who is a citizen of Ireland, is a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She works part time at Butch McGuire's Irish pub. Jurich worked for a Morgan Stanley Smith Barney brokerage office after graduating North Central College in Naperville.

UPDATE#1: Heriberto Viramontes, 30, of the 3100 block of North Springfield, and Marcy Cruz, 25, are charged with aggravated battery and armed robbery. According to the Sun Times, Cruz has been arrested in the past for minor crimes, but never charged. Viramontes, on the other hand, is a career criminal who should not have been out on the streets. He has felony convictions for burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle and about 30 other arrests on his record. This dirtbag should never have been out on the streets.
