Biology Major Katie Washington is Notre Dame University's First Black Valedictorian

Katie Washington, a biology major, is Notre Dame University's first black valedictorian.

Congratulations to Katie Washington, who will be the first black valedictorian at Notre Dame University. Washington, 21, a biology major and Catholic school teaching minor, has a 4.0 GPA. “I am humbled,” said Washington to the Northwest Indiana Times. "I am in a mode of gratitude and thanksgiving right now.”

University officials said they couldn’t recall ever having a black valedictorian, and don’t keep record of their race. This young lady is from a family of achievers, her father is a doctor, her mother a nurse, one brother completing his residency and another works for British Petroleum. Her parents set the right tone in their household and more people should strive to emulate them.
