Convicted Felon Jason Padgett Arrested for Beating Girlfriend's 2-Y.O. Son, Who Later Dies

Jason Padgett, convicted felon, arrested for beating girlfriend's two year old son, who later dies in Florida hospital. Autopsy shows brain hemorrhages.

Jason Padgett, a 28 year-old felon is sitting in a Palm Bay jail for beating his girlfriend's 2 year-old son. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the boy also showed signs of sexual abuse. Police said he was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne with a severe head injury. He was later transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he died last Thursday. An autopsy reportedly showed brain hemorrhages that were allegedly caused by the beating(s).

Witnesses told investigators they saw Jason Padgett punch the child in the face and head in the three weeks before his death. Their identity was not revealed, nor did officers say why the witnesses did not notify police or child-protection workers. The child's mother left him with Padgett while she went to work Wednesday night. Witnesses told police that he smoked marijuana while baby sitting the boy at his apartment on Pinewood Drive.

Padgett told detectives the boy fell off the toilet and hit his head on the floor and was bleeding and unconscious. He did not summon medical help. Instead, he gave him a bath and put him to bed. The mother arrived home at 11:30 p.m. and rushed her son to the hospital.  Source: Orlando Sentinel

Right. Padgett is no stranger to the penal system. He served prison time for robbery, grand theft, forgery and fleeing a law enforcement officer, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Wait, there's more. The police said his arrest record also includes charges of domestic violence, child abuse, aggravated battery and drugs. This child's mother picked a real winner, didn't she. I hope the charges will be upgraded to murder because that's just what he did to that little boy.
