James Larry Charged in the Death of Pregnant Wife, 7-M.O. Son & Two Others in Chicago

James Larry charged with four counts of first degree murder for killing his pregnant wife, seven-month old son and two others, as well as wounding his mother and nephew.

James Larry, 32, was charged Thursday with killing his pregnant wife, Tawanda Thompson; his seven-month old son, Jihad; his nieces, three year old Keleasha Larry and 16 year old Keyshai Fields, who was also pregnant. Larry has been charged with four counts of first degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child. His mother and nephew were also wounded.

According to media reports, Larry told police following his arrest early Wednesday that he heard voices encouraging him to kill his family and was sorry he had run out of bullets. He is being held without bond and was scheduled for a court appearance Friday, police said.

This is such an unspeakable and senseless act of violence. Larry has a lengthy criminal record dating to 1995, which includes charges for battery, drug possession, resisting arrest and escape,the state's attorney's office. In 2002, he was sentenced in 2002 to almost six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a felon. He was paroled in April 2007 and stayed out of trouble for about a year before being sentenced to three months in a halfway house after he admitted smoking marijuana.
