Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS) Says "Omitting Slavery From VA Proclamation “Doesn’t Matter For Diddly”

Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS) tells CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" that "omitting slavery from VA proclamation “doesn’t matter for diddly.”

Why am I not surprised the Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, (R), doesn't see anything wrong with Gov. Bob McDonnell's (R-VA) deliberate omission of slavery from his recent proclamation to celebrate April as Confederate History month? During an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union" with Candy Crowley when she called him on the insensitivity of the governor's actions, he said:

Barbour: Well maybe they should talk to my Democratic legislature, which has done exactly the same thing in Mississippi for years. As far as I know, the Democratic legislature — we have a majority — both houses are Democrats. I’m unaware of them being criticized for it or them having their supporters feel uncomfortable with it....

To me it’s a sort of feeling that it’s just a nit. That it is not significant. It’s trying to make a big deal out of something that doesn’t matter for diddly.  Source: Liberaland

Er, the governor of Mississippi should be the last person to make such an insensitive statement since the state didn't ratify the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery until March 16, 1995, after rejecting it in on December 5, 1865, and Jim Crow laws were on the books until 2009. Let's not forget that Virginia joins Mississippi and Georgia honoring the Confederacy and deliberately omitting any mention of slavery.
