Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey tells residents of Ashtabula County to "arm themselves" in response to deep cuts in sheriff's department.
Ashtabula county, OH, Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey said residents of the county should "arm themselves. We're going to have to look after each other." On first glance, the comments may seem to be fanning the flames of unrest in the county, but taken in the proper context, one has to concur with the judge. The deputies in the sheriff's department in Ashtabula county were cut from 112 to 49, with just one vehicle left to patrol the 720 square mile county.According to WKYC-TV, Cleveland, area gun dealers and instructors said that they've noticed an uptick in sales and interest in self-defense classes. One instructor, Tracy Williams, said the cuts mean "you don't have any other option" other than to listen to Mackey's advice.
It is unfathomable that law enforcement department are facing cuts. We need every member of the law enforcement community on the job. The results of these deep cuts could be disastrous.
