Johnny Wilson, 56, mauled to death by daughter's pit bulls in his South Side, Chicago home.

Johnny Wilson, 56, was mauled to death by his daughter's pit bull dogs on the Far South Side of Chicago. According to the Chicago Tribune, the daughter came home Sunday night and found her father covered in blood and was killed by the dogs she was raising. He was reportedly found in the living room of his home with numerous bite marks on his body. There are other reports circulating that he suffered massive head, chest and upper body trauma.

The Cook County medical examiner's office has concluded following an autopsy that Wilson died of hemorrhaging from multiple injuries from a dog attack and the death was accidental. His daughter had four pit bulls and two puppies in the home, which have since been turned over to Chicago Animal Care and Control. She reportedly told the police that the dogs were afraid of her father because his voice was loud.

I have had dogs for as far as I can remember and I know that dogs do not usually attack people in their own homes, so this incident will undoubtedly be investigated by the Animal Care and Control office. I don't know if pit bulls are just getting a bad rap, but it seems every time we have a mauling death by dogs, a pit bull is involved. I have a miniature Schnauzer and he has a lot of spunk and energy. I can't imagine him ever snapping to the point of literally mauling someone to death. There was a time when pit bulls were banned in New York City after a summer in which there were numerous attacks and deaths involving pit bulls. This has since been reversed. There are people breeding these dogs to fight and be overly aggressive. That is dangerous and we may end up seeing this breed banned in other cities as well.

It seems a little crazy that there were four dogs and two puppies living in such a small space. No charges have been filed, and there was no evidence that dog-fighting had taken place in Mr. Wilson's home.
