BREAKING: Northern California hit by 6.5 magnitude earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was 25 miles southwest of Eureka, California, at 4:27 p.m. According to the L.A. Times, the quake appears to have occurred along the Russ fault.
The quake reportedly snapped power lines, toppled televisions, disrupted power throughout the region and forced the evacuation of at least one mall. The National Weather Service said the quake was centered under the Pacific Ocean and a tsunami was not expected.
According to the L.A. Times, the California Highway Patrol in Eureka said there was no major damage to roads, bridges and highways.
