Jayson Williams, former NJ Nets player, facing charges of DWI after crashing into tree in Manhattan. Slid over into passenger seat in attempt to mislead police about driver of SUV.
Karma is a b**ch. Just ask former NJ Nets basketball player Jayson Williams. He is now facing DWI charges after crashing his SUV into a tree in an early morning East Side crash, officials said. Police said Williams was reportedly driving his black Mercedes SUV on the FDR, and exited at the northbound E. 20th street exit. He hit a 40-foot oak tree at East 18th street and Avenue C at 3:15 a.m. What's equally disgraceful is that he reportedly slid into the passenger seat after the crash before police arrive. According to the NY Post, he then told the cops someone else had been driving and refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
It's shameful that he didn't have the guts to take responsibility for shooting a limo driver,Costas Christofi, in his home in 2002, and, fast-forward to 2010, he still can't bring himself to doing that, as evidenced from the fact that he tried to blame a "non-existent" driver for this early morning crash.
Williams reportedly suffered lacerations to his forehead and was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be treated. He is scheduled to be on the reckless manslaughter count that produced a deadlocked jury in 2004. In that incident, witnesses testified that Williams was showing off a shotgun in his bedroom back in February 2002, when he snapped the weapon shut and it fired one shot, which struck Christofi in the chest. These witnesses also testified that he had initially placed the gun in the dead man's hands and instructed those present to lie about what happened. Classic Jayson Williams behavior -- leave the bag in someone else's lap.
