Black Students at Hocking College in Ohio on Alert after Note Scrawled in Bathroom Threatens to Kill All Black Students

Racial threats have put some students at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, on alert. According to media reports, at least two students have withdrawn from the technical college and several have decided to move because of a note scrawled in a men's bathroom by a coward threatening to kill all black students on February 2.

The threat was made at the Hocking Heights residence hall last week. It is being reported that there have been simmering racial tensions at the college for quite some time. The two-year college is located in the Appalachian foothills, 60 miles southeast of Columbus. The college has a student body of approximately 6,500 students, of which about 400 are black. The school's student body, during the 2007 - 2008 school year had 84% whites, six percent blacks, one percent Hispanic, one percent foreign students and seven percent unknown.

The college has reportedly provided temporary housing for students who are too scared to stay in the dorm where the threat was found. Hocking College has also installed more security cameras and increased foot patrols. A measly $5,000 reward is being offered.

I wish the punk who scrawled that note would show his or her face instead of hiding. I would urge the black students at Hocking College to stand up and say "enough is enough and I am not fleeing the school." Rosa Parks, Johnnie Carr, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and other civil rights leaders didn't run from the racist thugs that terrorized blacks, they stood up and fought against a system rife with racism.

If you have any information, contact either the Hocking College police at 740-753-6598 or the Cincinnati Division of the FBI at 513-421-4310.
