Northwest Airlines Flight Briefly Diverted Over Suspicious Package, Turns Out it was a Christmas Ornament

Northwest Airlines Flight 2364 from Detroit to Orlando briefly diverted to Tennessee due to suspicious package that turned out to be a Christmas ornament.

Another Northwest Airlines flight was briefly diverted to Tennessee Friday after someone found a suspicious package. It turns out that suspicious package was a Christmas ornament. Northwest Airlines Flight 2364 was en route from Detroit to Orlando and carried 75 passengers and five crew members, who were removed from the flight at about 8 a.m. while dogs searched it.

According to media reports, Delta Air Lines spokesman Carlos Santos said he was not sure who found the package midway through the flight to Orlando, Fla., or why they thought it was suspicious. He said the flight was diverted "out of an abundance of caution."

I understand being cautious, but this is just ridiculous. They couldn't detect the explosives on Nigerian terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab had in his underwear on the Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, but they go crazy over a Christmas ornament. Somewhere in the Middle East al-Qaida is having a laugh about this.

Northwest Airlines is owned by Delta Air Line Inc.
