Jameg Blake Allegedly Shoots Friend Kwame Dancy, Cops Say Twitter to Become Key Evidence in Murder

Cops say Jameg Blake shot his friend Kwame Dancy to death over Twitter beef. The two reportedly had rocky relationship and previously fought over a girl.

Jameg Blake, 22, reportedly killed his childhood friend Kwame Dancy, 22, over a Twitter beef. The argument spilled over from Twitterdom onto the streets of Harlem, where Dancy was shot to death. It is expected that the Tweets, which are 140-character messages will play a paramount role in the upcoming trial. Darcy was shot and killed December 1 across from Lenox Terrace in Harlem, mere steps from Gov. David Paterson's home. Blake, who was charged with murder, is being held without bail. He pleaded not guilty. According to the NY Daily News, police sources said the two had a rocky relationship and the Twitter messages they posted, with some intervention by friends, only made matters worse. Hours before Dancy was shot, he may have reportedly taunted Blake with a tweet -- "Niggers is lookin for u don't think I won't give up ya address for a price betta chill asap."

But the Twitter beef wasn't the only strain; Dancy and Blake fought last summer over a girl in front of Lenox Terrace, sources said. Despite the insults and fisticuffs, when Blake was collared, Dancy's mom was stunned. "They were good friends, that's the sad part about it," said Smith, who is divorced from Dancy's dad and lives in Brooklyn. "Obviously, I didn't know him like I thought I did. I just want to ask him. 'Why? How could you?'"

She said her son had tried to steer Blake - a high school dropout and father of a baby boy - to get his GED. "They've been friends since they were kids. Kwame would often try to help when [Blake] was going through stuff - and this was his thank you?" Smith said.

Blake's arrest was particularly shocking because he showed up at Harlem Hospital after Dancy was shot and hugged his father. "Either he wanted to see if he actually killed [Kwame] or he wanted to see if anyone knew he did it," Smith said. Source: NY Daily News
Authorities said they have a witness who has identified Blake as the gunman and video reportedly show him leaving Lenox Terrace around the time of the shooting carrying a bag large enough for a gun to fit in. The Daily News reports that records also show Blake used his phone around the time and place of the shooting. The murder weapon, which is being described as a shotgun, along with a spent shell and two shirts were recovered in Central Park. With some forensics, the investigators will be able to determine if the gun and the shirts belong to Jameg Blake. This is one of the first cases in which Twitter will play a key role.
