Gaines Adams, 26, former Clemson University football star and Chicago Bears defensive lineman, died this morning after he was taken to the Self Regional's emergency room in South Carolina. According to Fox News, the Greenwood County coroner's office said Adams died from cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.

The autopsy on Adams was performed in Anderson, S.C. and the toxicology test will be performed by South Carolina's law enforcement division. Results are expected to be returned in the next two to three months.

Adams, a defensive end, was picked in the 2007 National Football League draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was traded to the Chicago Bears in October.
