Major Earthquake with Magnitude of 7.0 Hits Haiti, Hospital Collapses

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit the impoverished country of Haiti Tuesday afternoon. According to media reports, a hospital collapsed and other buildings were also damaged. The earthquake was centered 14 miles west of the capital Port-au-Prince.

A tsunami watch has been issued. The watch is in effect for Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and the Bahamas The quake was reportedly very shallow at a depth of only 6.2 miles. An earthquake of such magnitude or higher could cause widespread and heavy damage. There were no immediate report of damage or injuries, but I am sure that will change shortly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the residents of this country. It just seems that Haiti can't catch a break no matter how hard they try.

Still developing....
