Talk about using poor judgment. At least nine students, who are Arab-American boys, from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI, are in trouble for wearing sweat shirts bearing a design that evokes the terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center's Twin Towers. According to the Detroit Freepress, the boys who are in the class of 2011 said they were showing pride in their class with their choice of sweatshirts Monday. School officials didn't see it that way. They confiscated the sweatshirts and scheduling meetings with the students and their parents because the images on the sweatshirts.

According to the Detroit Free Press, on the shirts, the number 11 resembles two buildings, with the school's "Thunderbird" mascot flying toward them. Printed beneath the image are the words, "You can't bring us down." The boys, who are in the class of 2011, are reportedly scheduled to meet with school officials, but suspensions are not expected. The Hinterland Gazette placed a call to the school superintendent's office, but we have not received a return phone call as yet.

I am sure that the intent of the boys was not to be malicious, but the whole series of events surrounging September 11, 2001, is one that still sends chills down the backs of all Americans. It is very upsetting and we will never forget that tragedy. The sweatshirts will be perceived negatively because of what that days meant for America and its ongoing war on terror. Nearly half of the school's 1,700 students are Arab-American.
