Thousands Line Up in Detroit For Stimulus Money, City Gets $15 Million to Help Residents Pay Bills, Rent or Find Temporary Housing

According to Click on Detroit, thousands of people lined up Tuesday for a chance to get money from millions of stimulus dollars set aside to help the city's homeless and low-income residents from becoming homeless and homeless residents to find housing. Apparently, some people in line falsely believed they were registering for $3,000 stimulus checks from the Obama Administration. Right. Just like that. Doing nothing but standing on line to get money. Ain't America great? The city of Detroit was granted $15 million to help residents pay bills and their rent or find temporary housing for the homeless.

The Detroit Planning and Development Department (PDD) is taking applications Tuesday and Wednesday for the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program. The applications deadline is Oct. 7. Of course, this program isn't going to give those facing foreclosure some assistance. Since the government is in such a giving mood, why not extend some assistance to the thousands, if not millions, of homeowners currently under water with their mortgages or facing foreclosure. Everyone else seems to be at the trough for their share. This is just ridiculous. Why not invest in job creation and education, rather than just handing money to those who stand on line? This will only solve their problems temporarily and they will be back in the same predicament a few weeks later.
