The Europa, where most journalists covering the decades-long conflict stayed, was famed as Europe’s most bombed hotel, earning the moniker “the Hardboard Hotel.” However, the last Provisional IRA bomb to damage the Europa was detonated in 1993, two years before President Clinton and his wife checked in for the night.Wow, what are the odds that she would do the same thing again, knowing that she would be fact-checked. So, she can't blame this latest faux pas on a long campaign. Well, her camp isn't sitting by and hoping this slip-up will fly under the mainstream media's radar. Her spokesman reportedly told a Belfast newspaper that “We are not talking about the same thing [as ‘mis-speaking’ about Bosnia]. Secretary Clinton was simply contrasting.” Well, let's see how much mileage the media will get out of this mis-statement.
The last time the Europa underwent renovations because of bomb blast damage was in January 1994, 22 months before the presidential entourage booked 110 rooms at the hotel. Mrs. Clinton told assembled politicians at Stormont: “When Bill and I first came to Belfast we stayed at the Europa Hotel ... even though then there were sections boarded up because of damage from bombs.” Source: Times Online

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Suffers "Mis-Speaking" Relapse in Bomb Claims About Belfast's Landmark Europa Hotel
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has "misspoke" again in a manner that tells me she has not learned from past embellishments about what really happened when she went overseas. You will recall that she was exposed during the presidential election campaign when she claimed she landed in Bosnia under sniper fire. She was also described as "a wee bit silly" for claiming greater credit than she was due for the Irish peace process, during the several trips she made to Ireland during her stint as First Lady. Well, she was back in Belfast last week, urging politicians to reach an agreement on the final piece to the peace process agreement. According the the Sunday Life newspaper, during a speech she made to the Stormont parliament, she said that Belfast’s landmark Europa Hotel was devastated by an explosion when she first stayed there in 1995.
