Major Mackerel, 1980s Reggae Dancehall Star, Attacked by Jealous Neighbor, Oscar Joseph, With Samurai Sword

Major Mackerel, whose real name is Garfield Dixon, was hospitalized in Brooklyn on Sunday after he was attacked by Oscar Joseph, a jealous husband wielding a two-foot samurai sword, according to the NYPD. He was slashed across the head and hand during a fight outside his East Flatbush home this morning. You may remember him as one of dancehall's biggest artists in the 1980s, with hits such as "Dutty Bungle" and "Sorry Fi Botha."

According to the NY Daily News, as he left Kings County Hospital, he said, "I don't feel bad," said Mackerel. "These things happen." "It's a Jamaican thing," said Mackerel, 41, before adding that he was happy his attacker was immediately arrested. "How can I feel bad for someone who tried to kill me?" Besides being almost sliced to bits, I can't imagine why Major Mackerel walked out of the hospital still dressed in a hospital gown. Isn't the back of that open? Wow and he didn't seem to have a problem being interviewed by the Daily News. What a view!

Joseph, 37, was holding the blade when he confronted Mackerel and claimed his neighbor had been flirting with his wife. Joseph was arrested minutes after he stabbed Mackerel, in front of the building, still clutching the bloody sword. He was charged with assault with intent to cause a serious injury, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. According to the NY Daily News, Mackerel denied harassing Joseph's wife but admitted that a few of his friends may have cat-called her earlier in the year. Wow, Mr. Joseph certainly knows how to hold a grudge.
