Wansah Hadgi, 32, Disappears from Chicago Airport After Arriving from Syria

Wansah Hadgi, 32, flew into Chicago O’Hare airport from a trip to Syria on September 11, 2009. According to media reports, she cleared customs and her luggage arrived back in her hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, on a connecting flight, but she never did. She seems to have disappeared into thin air. Relatives, who describe her as "shy" and "devoted to her family," say she became lost in the airport on her way to Syria and they feel that she became lost again. Sorry, but I have never heard of anyone being lost in an airport for a month. Well, it seems that she's no stranger to hanging around in an airport for days. According to media reports, on the first part of her journey, she waited by a pay phone in O'Hare airport for three days so that her brother could help her get on a flight.

Her family last heard from her when she was leaving Damascus. She contacted her sister Dilma and promised to call from Nebraska when she needed an airport pickup. Instead, relatives received a call from American Airlines reporting that Hadgi had failed to claim her luggage. A Chicago detective contacted Homeland Security after her disappearance to see if she had been arrested and detained. He told the Chicago Tribune that no one knows “who she talked to on that Jordanian airline.” He seems to be confident that Hadgi is safe. He cited the statistic that 97% of missing adults are found.
