Jasper Howard, 20, a cornerback for the University of Connecticut, was stabbed to death early Sunday morning. According to the police, he was killed following a sponsored student dance on campus. According to the police, at about 12:26 p.m., a fire alarm was pulled during the dance at the university's student center. More than 300 people who were in attendance at the dance left and spilled out into the streets. A fight broke out between two groups and Howard, plus an unidentified person were stabbed.
Police said the incident happened at approximately 12:33 a.m. Howard and the other victim were taken to a local hospital. He was then airlifted by helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he later died from his injuries. The second victim was treated and released. The police said they don't believe this was a random act. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
According to the team's web site, he started in every game last year and led the Big East conference in punt returns.
