Students at Crenshaw and Dorsey High Schools in Los Angeles on a Mission to Visit the White House

Once again, more socialist indoctrination accusations are coming from the right wing media outlets such as The Drudge Report, which has the link prominently displayed on its website stating, "Los Angeles students write songs, cook for Obama..." as though the president has something to do with their actions. Teacher Daphne Bradford has created projects Crenshaw and Dorsey high schools using President Barack Obama as an inspiration. Never mind the fact that this teacher is inspiring hope in the students in these poverty and crime-ridden communities in Los Angeles, helping them to learn technological and cooking skills. At Crenshaw High School, students on the Barack Obama Digital Media Team use technology to create digital art inspired by the president. They call it their Journey to the White House campaign. Members of the team have received digital media certification in Apple's iLife software suite.

Students recorded video letters to the President aboard the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, a one-of-a-kind non-profit multimedia studio where the Black Eyed Peas, Natasha Bedingfield and other recording artists have laid tracks. At Dorsey High, Ms. Bradford worked with the school's culinary arts department to create the Dorsey High School Obama Chefs. The students are taught to prepare nutritious lunches for Obama volunteers during the stretch run for the presidential campaign last year. Ms. Bradford was a South Los Angeles campaign manager for the Obama campaign. This innovative program has led to a web-based television show, "Cooking Live with Dorsey High," where the students prepare a variety of healthy meals and desserts for students, teachers and community events.

Instead of trying to tie this to socialist indoctrination, the right wing should applaud this Daphne Bradford for inspiring hope in these students that they can dare to dream. I wish them all the best and I am sure they will get invited to the White House.
