Controversy brewing over Sons of Confederate Veterans erecting three flags along Georgia interstates.
There is a new controversy brewing with the Confederate flag in Georgia. If the Sons of Confederate Veterans have their way, there will be more than the three Confederate flags currently flying along Georgia's interstates. So far, one flag, which reportedly measures 30-by-50 feet, is flying north of Tifton and there are two others flying alongside interstates in North Georgia.“We want to remind people of who they are and where they came from,” said Jack Bridwell, the division commander of state chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which is paying for the flags. “Being Southern is nothing to be ashamed of.” SourceNone of the flags are flying in metro Atlanta, though the group is actively trying to find a site or sign a long term lease, the AJC said. The group sees the Confederate flag and flying it along interstates as a way to honor soldiers during the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, critics see it as a constant reminder of the scourge of slavery and the racism blacks endured.
