Bay Minette AL Offers Non-Violent Offenders Jail or One Year of Church & Case Dismissal

Church or jail, that's the choice being offered to non-violent offenders in Bay Minette, Ala. The new policy, set to commence next week gives them a choice to either go to jail and pay a fine or go to church every Sunday for one year. Of course, it has its supporters and its critics. The initiative, Operation to Restore Our Community (ROC), will allow offenders convicted of misdemeanors to opt for church instead of jail and their case will be dismissed. Offenders can select the place of worship they wish to attend and must meet with pastors and police weekly to ensure they are completing the initiative as agreed. If you are an atheist or agnostic, where do you go for the same perk? Sorry, but this initiative is unconstitutional if they are using federal or local government resources to run the program. You can't force people to go to church.
