North Point Community Church senior pastor Andy Stanley to launch "Be Rich" campaign in 2012, saying the church can play a role in the recovery of America, leverage entitlement for the sake of the less among us, and start avalanche of generosity.
North Point Community Church senior pastor Andy Stanley is on a mission to change the way we view our responsibility in creating jobs in the metro Atlanta area, saying "recovery starts with us." He is launching the "Be Rich" campaign in 2012. He said the buck doesn't stop with elected officials, it starts with each member. "We have a greed problem in America, whatever we put in our hands is for our consumption," he said. He is challenging church members to be tithers, 10 percent off the top, for a year to their local church. He said God can use the church in the United States of America to a financial resource for all the single parents, the poor and all those in need.He addressed the rich people in the congregation, he said some have enormous resources and don't tithe to a local church. He said they give out of a fund over time, but he challenged them to give that money to their local church. He said the super-rich, who are Christians, should funnel their resources through their local church for one year. He said the first century Christians went into cities helping the less fortunate by serving and giving. Generosity makes a big difference. The government can't fix all our problems. Recovery begins when we leverage our entitlements to helping the less among us, he said.
DISCLAIMER: I am a member of North Point Community Church and I do share many of the views of Pastor Stanley. I believe recovery starts with me and my generosity. No matter how small, we can give to the less fortunate among us.
