I find it ironic that Alabama Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rep. Artur Davis didn't score one endorsement from mostly black organizations in his state. According to Tuscaloosa News, the latest blow came when the Alabama Democratic Conference, the state's oldest black political organization, instead endorsed Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, who is white. The ADC dealt this slap to Davis, who is black, during the group's convention in Montgomery on Saturday.
He said he expected not to be endorsed by the group because he refused to be screened by their endorsement committees and ask them for their votes. Even if he prevails at the polls in the primary race, the battle isn't over by any means. He will face the Republican nominee in the general election Nov. 2.
Sparks also got the endorsements of the Alabama New South Coalition for the June 1 primary. It is telling that these black groups decided to throw Davis under the bus and endorse another candidate. I guess by their actions they are saying Davis isn't the right candidate for the job. It will be interesting to see if the black voters follow suit and vote for Ron Sparks in the primary.
